How much is a taxi from Rome Ciampino Airport to the city centre?
Ciampino sits on Via Appia Nuova, beside the ring road. Everything leaving the airport uses the same short run of road towards the city, so the choice here is really about luggage, the hour you land, how many of you there are, and where in Rome you are actually sleeping.
Rome does something most European capitals do not. Instead of leaving the airport run on the meter, the city fixes one all-inclusive figure for a direct journey between Ciampino and any address inside the Aurelian Walls. That figure is per car rather than per person, it already contains the luggage and night supplements, and it covers motorway tolls. It is set by Roma Capitale, not by the driver, and the airport reprints it on its own taxi page.
The catch is the boundary, and it is a real one. Roma Capitale does not define the Aurelian Walls as a monument. It defines them as a named list of streets running clockwise from Piazzale Flaminio, through Termini, round past Porta Maggiore and Porta San Sebastiano, along the river at Testaccio, out over Trastevere to Via Gregorio VII and back across Prati. The airport itself is nowhere near that line, so the only end that matters is your Rome address. If it falls inside, the flat fare applies. If it falls outside, the flat fare does not exist for your journey and a rank car goes on the meter, with a separate airport minimum sitting underneath it.
That is where most of the confusion on this route comes from. A traveller reads the flat figure on the airport's page, books nothing, lands at midnight, gives an address in the southern suburbs or out near the ring road, and is charged something else entirely, correctly. None of the city's discounts help either: they are explicitly switched off for any journey starting or ending at an airport.
Our price works the other way round. It is quoted for the exact address you type in, before you pay, and it does not care which side of a line drawn in 2006 the address falls on. It does not move if the road is slow, which matters more at Ciampino than the distance suggests, because Rome's meter charges for time as well as distance once the traffic drops below walking-out-of-town speed. The car is sized to the party when you book, so a family of five is not a negotiation at the kerb.
We would rather be straight about when not to book. If you are up to four people with luggage that fits one car, landing in daylight, going to a hotel inside the Walls and happy to queue, the flat fare from the rank is the cheaper answer and you should take it. The cheapest ways into Rome are cheaper still, and they are set out below with their fares and their running times. Read the hours on the cheapest row of all before you rely on it: that one runs to a short list of departures spread across the middle of the day, and it is the reason the second-cheapest option is usually the useful one here.

Where do I meet my driver at Rome Ciampino?
- Clear customs, follow the signs to Arrivals, and stay on that side of the building. The airport puts the public taxi rank at the Arrivals Terminal, and that is the side your driver will be waiting on as well.
- Contact your driver as soon as you land, their number is in your supplier details email. It arrives separately from your booking confirmation, so save it to your phone before you fly.
- Express pick-up is included in the price you paid: the driver waits at the airport's designated pick-up point rather than inside the hall. Aeroporti di Roma publishes no fixed meeting point for pre-booked cars at Ciampino, which is exactly why the call matters here. Being met in the arrivals hall with a name board is meet and greet, a paid extra you add at checkout.
- Do not join the rank queue by mistake, and ignore anyone approaching you inside the terminal with an offer of a ride. The airport warns in writing that vehicles other than the white, roof-signed, licence-numbered taxis at the rank may be driven by people with no valid permit.
- Your flight is tracked at no charge, and your booking carries 60 minutes free waiting after your flight lands, so a slow bag belt does not cost you the car.

Arrivals-hall meet and greet with a name board is available as a paid extra at checkout.
Rank, ride-hail, drop-off and the facts that move the meter
The city sets the airport fare, not the driver
Roma Capitale's tariff sheet, referencing Deliberazione della Giunta Capitolina n. 157 of 21 May 2026, prices a direct journey between Ciampino and the area inside the Aurelian Walls at 40,00 euros in either direction. Stazione Tiburtina and Stazione Ostiense are also 40,00 euros, and Fiumicino Airport is 55,00 euros. There is no predetermined fare at all between Ciampino and Civitavecchia, although one exists from the city centre and from Fiumicino.
(Roma Capitale, Dipartimento Mobilità Sostenibile e Trasporti, checked 16 September 2026)Outside the Walls there is no flat fare, only a floor
Every journey picked up at Ciampino for a destination with no predetermined fare is metered against a minimum of 25,00 euros, applicable 24 hours a day and charged per ride rather than per passenger. Any surcharges count towards reaching that 25,00 euros rather than being added on top of it. This is the single most useful thing to know before you join the queue with an address that is not in the historic centre.
(Roma Capitale, Dipartimento Mobilità Sostenibile e Trasporti, checked 16 September 2026)Where the Walls actually run
The boundary is a list of streets, not a monument. Deliberazione della Giunta Comunale n. 493 of 6 September 2006 traces it clockwise from Piazzale Flaminio through Porta Pia, Termini, Porta Maggiore, Porta San Sebastiano, Piazzale Ostiense, Porta Portese, Piazzale Aurelio, Via Gregorio VII, Piazzale degli Eroi and Viale delle Milizie, and states that outside that perimeter the meter fares apply. The same deliberation introduced the flat airport fares on 1 October 2006 at 30,00 euros for Ciampino, so the figure has moved since and the perimeter has not.
(Roma Capitale, Giunta Comunale (Deliberazione n. 493/2006), checked 16 September 2026)The flat fare covers the detour you do not take
A predetermined fare includes every supplement except the fifth passenger onwards, and includes motorway tolls. In return it applies only to a direct route with one pick-up point and one point of arrival, with no detour and no stop. Dropping a friend on the way, or asking the driver to wait while you collect keys, takes the journey off the fixed fare and back onto the meter.
(Roma Capitale, Dipartimento Mobilità Sostenibile e Trasporti, checked 16 September 2026)No discount applies to an airport journey
Rome publishes a 10 per cent reduction on the metered amount for hospital journeys and for passengers over 70, and a 15 per cent reduction for women travelling alone between 22:00 and 06:00. The tariff sheet then states that none of them can be combined, and that none of them apply to a minimum fare, to a predetermined fare, or to any journey with an origin or a destination at an airport or a port.
(Roma Capitale, Dipartimento Mobilità Sostenibile e Trasporti, checked 16 September 2026)Fifteen minutes free at the kerb, and then not
If somebody is dropping you off or collecting you, car park P3 holds about 110 open-air spaces 200 metres from the terminals, the first 15 minutes are free, and it is the one the airport recommends for stays of up to an hour. P3 cannot be bought online and its rates are only displayed at the entrance, so it is the one charge here you cannot check before you travel. P4 to P7 add about 500 spaces opposite the terminal for longer stays.
(Aeroporti di Roma (Ciampino Giovan Battista Pastine Airport), checked 16 September 2026)Cards must be accepted, and the rank has rules
Rome's regulation of 27 May 2021 requires taxi and hire-with-driver operators to take credit and debit cards and other non-cash payment, so a driver claiming to be cash-only is outside the rules. The same regulation makes taxis queue at marked ranks in order of arrival, and forbids a driver from picking you up within 100 metres of a rank when taxis or waiting passengers are visible there.

How much is a taxi from Rome Ciampino Airport to Rome city centre?
Our price is quoted live on this page and fixed once you book. From the public rank it is not metered at all if your address is inside the Aurelian Walls: Roma Capitale sets a predetermined fare of 40,00 euros, in either direction, per car rather than per passenger. That figure already includes the luggage and night supplements and any motorway tolls, and the airport reprints the same 40,00 euros on its own taxi page. The only thing it does not cover is the fifth passenger onwards, which is 5,00 euros a head in a car with more than four seats. If your address is outside the Walls there is no fixed fare and the journey is metered with a 25,00 euro minimum.
What counts as inside the Aurelian Walls for the fixed taxi fare?
A list of streets, published by Roma Capitale in 2006 and still the reference. The perimeter runs clockwise from Piazzale Flaminio by Viale del Muro Torto and Corso d'Italia to Porta Pia, down past Termini and Porta Maggiore to Piazzale Appio and Porta San Sebastiano, out to Piazzale Ostiense, over Ponte Sublicio to Porta Portese and the Gianicolense walls, along Via Aurelia Antica and Via Gregorio VII, then back through Piazzale degli Eroi, Largo Trionfale and Viale delle Milizie to Piazzale Flaminio. The streets named take in Trastevere and Prati. The current tariff sheet reprints that list and carries a map of it, so you can check an address against the boundary before you travel. Outside that perimeter the meter fares apply, which makes an address in the southern or eastern suburbs a metered journey with a 25,00 euro airport minimum, not a 40,00 euro one.
Is there a taxi rank at Rome Ciampino Airport?
Yes, at the Arrivals Terminal. Authorised cars are white, carry a TAXI sign on the roof, show the symbol of their municipality on the front doors, and display the licence number on the doors, at the back and inside the car. The airport warns in writing that any other vehicle could be driven by someone without a valid taxi permit, and advises being suspicious of anyone inside the airport offering transport into the city without the necessary permits. You cannot pre-book a rank car: you join the queue with everyone off your flight and the flights either side of it.
Is there a bus from Rome Ciampino Airport to Roma Termini?
Yes, three companies run one. The airport names SIT, Terravision and Romeairportbus-Schiaffini for the daily link to Termini, and puts all the bus stops opposite International Departures, with tickets sold online, by authorised agents in the Arrival Terminal, or on board. Terravision sells from 6,00 euros for an adult one way and 12,00 euros return, carries children aged 0 to 4 free, includes luggage in the ticket, gives its frequency as roughly every 40 minutes and its duration as 40 to 45 minutes, but publishes no first or last departure. Rome Airport Bus charges 8,00 euros one way online and 11,00 euros return, says under-5s travel free with an adult while its own fare table shows 0 to 6 free, and sets down in Via Giovanni Giolitti beside Termini; on its July 2026 timetable the first departure from Ciampino is 05:55 and the last 22:30.
Is there a train from Rome Ciampino Airport?
Not from the airport itself. The airport has no platform of its own, so the rail option is the Trenitalia Ciampino Airlink, a combined ticket that puts you on a bus from the square opposite the terminal, a few metres from the entrance and leaving every 20 minutes, to Ciampino station, and then on the train to Termini. ATRAL, which runs the road leg, prices the through journey at 2,70 euros a person one way with children under 4 free, and gives the bus leg as about 10 minutes. Departures leave from Gate 2 at the airport, the first at 05:55 on a weekday and the last at 23:30; on Sundays and holidays it is 06:55 to 22:30.
What is the cheapest way from Rome Ciampino Airport into Rome?
The 1,20 euro bus to Anagnina is the cheapest fare we can source from this airport, if you land at the right time of day. ATRAL runs it to the metro line A terminus in about 20 minutes, with tickets at the information box in the airport, on board or from a reseller. The catch is the timetable rather than the price: on the list ATRAL publishes as in force since October 2024, weekday departures from the airport do not start until 08:15, stop at 22:40, and number fourteen in the whole day. Check your landing time against that list before you count on it. The 2,70 euro Airlink runs to a fuller weekday list, from 05:55 to 23:30, and the airport's own advice for anyone landing after midnight is an ATRAL bus, a taxi or a car share.
Is Uber available at Rome Ciampino Airport?
We cannot tell you which apps have cars at Ciampino, because neither the airport nor the city publishes that, and we will not guess. What we can tell you is the rule any of them has to work under. Rome licenses app-dispatched cars as hire with driver, and Article 29 of the city's 2021 regulation requires those cars to stand only inside their registered garages, takes bookings at the garage or the office including through an app, and forbids them from waiting on public land for a booking at all. A car may stop on public land only once a named customer has already booked it. So whatever the app, the thing arriving is a pre-booked private hire car, priced by its operator within limits set by Roma Capitale rather than on the city meter, and it will not be sitting on the rank when you walk out.
How much is a taxi from Ciampino to Fiumicino Airport or to Civitavecchia?
Between the two airports the city sets a predetermined fare of 55,00 euros in either direction, on the same all-inclusive terms as the city-centre fare. Civitavecchia is a different matter, and it is the strongest case on this page for booking ahead. Roma Capitale lists a fixed fare of 150,00 euros from inside the Aurelian Walls to the port and 130,00 euros from Fiumicino, but publishes none at all from Ciampino. For a destination outside the urban area with no predetermined fare, Article 31 comma 3 of the city's regulation leaves the price to free negotiation between you and the driver, and Article 8 comma 2 makes the journey optional, so the driver is entitled to decline it. Standing at a rank with a cruise to catch is the worst possible moment to discover both of those things.
Where do I meet my driver at Rome Ciampino Airport?
At the airport's designated pick-up point, on the arrivals side. The airport publishes no fixed meeting point for pre-booked cars here, so ring the driver on the number that came in your supplier details email once you are on the ground and they will tell you where to walk. Express pick-up of that kind is included in what you paid. Being met inside the hall with a name board is meet and greet, which is a paid extra you add at checkout.
What happens if my flight is late?
We track it and move the pick-up to the real landing time at no extra charge, so book for the scheduled arrival rather than padding it. The free waiting window included in your fare starts when the aircraft lands.
Can I get a child seat?
Yes, on request when you book. Tell us the ages and we pass it to the supplier with the job, so the seat is fitted before the car reaches the airport. Seats are not something you can count on finding at a rank, which is the usual reason families travelling here book ahead.
Can I cancel, and how do I pay?
Cancel more than 24 hours before pick-up and you pay nothing; inside 24 hours the booking is charged in full. Payment is online by card when you book, for the whole vehicle rather than per seat, and the amount you see is the amount taken.
How far ahead do I need to book a transfer from Rome Ciampino Airport?
At least 24 hours before your pick-up. We can't take bookings at shorter notice here. If you have just landed and need a car now, the airport taxi rank is the quickest option.
