How much is a taxi from Faro Airport to Faro town centre?

Faro Airport sits on the EN 125-10 just west of the city, and the road in is short by Algarve standards. Almost nobody flying into Faro is going to Faro itself, though, so the honest question on this page is usually not how to reach the town centre but how to reach Albufeira, Vilamoura, Carvoeiro, Alvor or Lagos. Those are separate journeys, and each has its own page and its own price.

Our price is fixed at the moment you book and does not move with the hour of the day. A rank car is metered. The national tariff in force since 18 August 2026 charges one rate per kilometre everywhere in Portugal but lifts the time component at night, at weekends and on public holidays, so the same run costs more in the small hours than it does mid-afternoon, and more still if the driver sits in queueing traffic on the way. Until about 27 October a car whose meter has not yet been reprogrammed may still be on the previous tariff.

The booked car earns its money on luggage, party size and the hour you land. It does not earn it for a single traveller arriving in daylight and going no further than the town centre, because the scheduled alternatives below are cheap, frequent and leave from the door. That case is set out honestly in the table rather than argued away.

Where do I meet my driver at Faro?

  1. Come through arrivals and step outside the terminal. Faro Airport publishes no fixed meeting point for pre-booked drivers, so the instructions in your supplier details email are the ones that count, not the signs.
  2. Contact your driver as soon as you land, their number is in your supplier details email. They will tell you exactly where they are waiting at the airport's designated pick-up point.
  3. Express pick-up is included in your fixed price. If you would rather be met inside the arrivals hall with a name board, add meet and greet at checkout as a paid extra.
  4. Your booking includes 60 minutes free waiting after your flight lands, so a slow bag belt or a long queue at passport control does not cost you the car. We track the flight, so book for the scheduled arrival rather than padding it.
  5. If someone is dropping you off instead, the ten free minutes at the departures kerbside are the Kiss & Fly allowance, and you get two of them in any 24 hours. ANA car parks are the only ones inside the airport.

Contact your driver as soon as you land, their number is in your supplier details email.

Arrivals-hall meet and greet with a name board is available as a paid extra at checkout.

Rank, ride-hail, drop-off and the facts that move the meter

There is no single rank operator here

Faro Airport does not contract one taxi company. Its own page lists four contacts, Antral, Faro Central Taxis, Izzy Move and Rotaxi Faro, says taxis run day and night, and notes that a rank car generally carries up to four passengers, with a larger vehicle available if you order by phone.

(ANA Aeroportos de Portugal (Faro Airport), checked 14 September 2026)

The toll is not in the meter price

The national regulation makes tolls payable by the passenger on top of the meter reading, and Faro Airport names the Via do Infante specifically. The A22 is the fast road west to Albufeira, Lagoa, Portimao and Lagos, so on those runs a metered fare is the meter plus a toll you will not have seen quoted.

(Autoridade da Mobilidade e dos Transportes, Diario da Republica n.º 110/2026, Serie II, checked 14 September 2026)

Until about 27 October, a car may still be on the old tariff

The national regulation was published on 9 June 2026 and, after an amendment on 19 June, came into force 70 days after publication, on 18 August 2026. Meters then have 70 days to be reprogrammed, to about 27 October 2026, and until a car's meter has been changed over it may still be charging the previous tariff, so ask the driver which tariff the meter is on rather than assuming either set. Every taxi must display the tariff information on a sticker inside its rear left side window.

(Autoridade da Mobilidade e dos Transportes, Diario da Republica n.º 110/2026, Serie II, checked 18 September 2026)

The new tariff's 2026 rates are below its published reference rates

Annex I of Regulamento n.º 717/2026 prints 0.73 euros a kilometre and 0.34 a minute, and those are the figures most pages quote. They are reference rates. Article 16(1) limits the first year of the regulation to a 9 per cent increase, which it states as a final price of 0.58 euros a kilometre and 0.28 a minute for 2026, so the Annex I numbers are not this year's figures on the new tariff.

(Autoridade da Mobilidade e dos Transportes, Diario da Republica n.º 110/2026, Serie II, checked 14 September 2026)

The night and weekend lift is on time, not distance

Regulamento n.º 717/2026 fixes one price per kilometre for the whole country and adjusts only the time component: 1.00 on a weekday daytime, 1.25 on a weekday night, 1.50 at weekends and on holidays by day and 1.75 at weekends and on holidays by night. Night runs from 22h00 to 07h00. A delayed late-evening landing can therefore move you into a higher band while you queue. In 2026 the factor applies to the time rate of 0.28 euros a minute; the 0.58 euros a kilometre is not multiplied.

(Autoridade da Mobilidade e dos Transportes, Diario da Republica n.º 110/2026, Serie II, checked 14 September 2026)

The airport still lists a baggage fee

Faro Airport's page says a supplementary baggage fee is charged for items larger than 55x35x20 cm. The new national tariff, in force since 18 August 2026, lists only one supplement, 0.80 euros for a telephone call or an advance booking, but taxis have until about 27 October to reprogram their meters, and a car not yet changed over is still on the previous tariff. Ask at the rank before you load the boot.

(ANA Aeroportos de Portugal (Faro Airport), checked 14 September 2026)

No railway station at the airport

The Algarve line does not reach the airport. Faro Airport's own rail entry sends you into the city first, and Proximo route 16 stops at Estacao CP on its way to the bus terminal. From there CP regional trains run daily west through Albufeira, Silves and Portimao to Lagos.

(ANA Aeroportos de Portugal (Faro Airport), checked 14 September 2026)

The airport coach thins out in winter

Vamus line 56, the Aerobus, has seven weekday departures from the airport in summer and two the rest of the year, because five of the seven are marked Verao. If you land in November on a Tuesday afternoon, the coach you read about in a July blog post is not running.

Faro taxi questions

How much is a taxi from Faro Airport to Faro town centre?

Our fixed price is quoted live on this page before you book and does not change afterwards. A rank car is metered instead, and until about 27 October 2026 the meter may be on either of two tariffs. The new national tariff, in force since 18 August 2026, charges 0.58 euros a kilometre and 0.28 euros a minute for 2026, on top of a 2 euro flag fall. Taxis have 70 days from 18 August to reprogram their meters, and a car not yet changed over charges the previous tariff instead. Faro Airport separately publishes an average of 10 euros for the airport to city run, so treat that as a rough guide rather than a fare.

Is there a taxi rank at Faro Airport?

Yes, and the airport says you will find one inside or outside the terminal, running day and night. There is no single contracted rank operator: the airport lists Antral, Faro Central Taxis, Izzy Move and Rotaxi Faro as contacts. A rank car generally seats up to four, and a larger vehicle has to be ordered by phone.

Is there a bus from Faro Airport to the city centre?

Yes. Próximo routes 14, 15 and 16 all call at the airport, and route 16 runs to Terminal Rodoviário, the bus terminal, calling at Estação CP on the way. It takes 15 to 19 minutes, first leaving the airport at 05h20 and last at 00h10. The ticket you need on board is the 2.85 euro whole-line ticket, because the airport is in zone 4 and the terminal in zone 1; the 1.35 euro one-zone and 2.00 euro two-zone tickets do not cover the journey.

Is the coach cheaper than a taxi from Faro Airport?

For one or two people travelling light in summer, usually yes. Vamus line 56, the Aerobus, runs from the airport to Albufeira, Lagoa, Portimão and Lagos bus terminals, and singles are 11 euros to Albufeira and 17 euros to Lagos, so two people reach Albufeira for 22 euros. What the booked car buys instead is a door instead of a bus terminal, one price for the whole vehicle however many of you there are, a driver who is already waiting, flight tracking, and no dependence on the two off-season departures.

Is Uber available at Faro Airport?

Yes, Uber operates at Faro. It publishes no pick-up point for the airport: its own page says directions are issued in the app once you have requested a ride, that the spot may vary by terminal and that it may not be at your nearest exit. Pricing moves with demand, so there is no figure to compare against in advance.

Where do I meet my driver at Faro Airport?

At the airport's designated pick-up point. Ring the driver on the mobile number in your supplier details email as soon as you are through, and they will tell you exactly where they are. Faro Airport publishes no fixed meeting point of its own, which is why the driver's instruction matters more here than the signage. Express pick-up is what your fixed price includes; being met in the arrivals hall with a name board is meet and greet, a paid extra at checkout.

Is there a train station at Faro Airport?

No. The airport tells you to reach the station in the Faro city centre first, and Proximo route 16 stops at Estacao CP on its way from the airport to the bus terminal. CP runs regional trains daily from there west through Albufeira and Silves to Portimao and Lagos.

Does a late-night landing cost more?

Not with us, because the price is fixed when you book. On the meter it does. The national tariff in force since 18 August 2026 multiplies the time component by 1.25 between 22h00 and 07h00 on a weekday, by 1.50 at weekends and on public holidays in the daytime and by 1.75 at weekends and on holidays at night, while the per-kilometre rate, 0.58 euros for 2026, stays the same. A car whose meter has not yet been reprogrammed, which taxis have until about 27 October to do, charges the previous tariff instead.

Can I get child seats and space for golf clubs or a pushchair?

Child seats are available on request, and you choose the vehicle when you book: a saloon takes up to 3 people with 3 standard suitcases, an estate takes a fourth passenger with the same 3 cases, a people carrier seats up to 5 and the largest class we run seats up to 8. Tell us about clubs, boards or a pushchair when you book so the right vehicle is sent.

How much does it cost to drop someone off at Faro Airport?

The Kiss & Fly areas at the departures kerbside are free for up to ten minutes, and you are allowed two non-sequential ten-minute stops within 24 hours. Beyond that it is charged as parking, and the driver is not supposed to leave the vehicle. ANA car parks are the only ones inside the airport.

What happens if my flight into Faro is delayed?

We track the flight and move the pick-up to the real landing time, at no extra charge. The free waiting window included in your booking starts when you land, so book for the scheduled arrival rather than guessing at a later one.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations made more than 24 hours before your scheduled pick-up are free. Inside 24 hours the booking is charged in full. Prices are per vehicle, fixed when you book, and paid online by card.
