How much is a taxi from Rome Fiumicino Airport to the city centre?
Fiumicino sits on the coast west of Rome and has two passenger terminals in use, Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. Whatever you choose, you leave from the arrivals level of the terminal you landed at, so the decision is really about how much luggage you have, what hour you land and how many of you there are.
Rome is one of the cities where the run into the centre is not a meter question at all. Roma Capitale sets a single predetermined fare for the airport to the historic centre, in both directions, and that figure is fixed by the city rather than negotiated with the driver or accumulated on the clock. Our own price works the same way: agreed when you book, and it does not move afterwards.
The catch is the boundary. The predetermined fare covers destinations inside the Aurelian Walls, which is a smaller area than most visitors picture when they say central Rome. An address outside that ring falls back on the meter, with its own floor and its own ceiling, and both of those numbers are set out below and in the questions further down this page.
Where a booked car earns its keep is a night landing, a party of four or more with hold luggage, an apartment outside the walls, or a first morning in Rome you would rather not start in a queue. Travelling alone in daylight into the middle of the city, the alternatives in the table below are cheaper. Inside the Walls the rank's predetermined fare is per car, so for up to four people with luggage that fits one car it is usually cheaper than our price too. We would rather set that out here than let you work it out afterwards.

Where do I meet my driver at Rome Fiumicino?
- Clear passport control and follow the signs to the Arrivals level of your terminal. Fiumicino runs two passenger terminals, T1 and T3, and which one you land at can change for operational reasons, so check the screens rather than last year's memory.
- Contact your driver as soon as you land, their number is in your supplier details email. That email arrives separately from your booking confirmation, so save it to your phone before you fly.
- Express pick-up is included in the price you paid: your driver waits at the airport's designated pick-up point rather than inside the hall. Being met in the arrivals hall with a name board is meet and greet, a paid extra you add at checkout.
- Do not join the rank queue by mistake. The white cars at Arrivals on T1 and T3 are the public taxi service, and Aeroporti di Roma is explicit that a pre-booked chauffeur car is not an alternative to it and cannot be taken from the taxi waiting area.
- Your flight is tracked at no charge, and your booking carries 60 minutes free waiting after your flight lands, so a slow passport queue or a late bag does not cost you the car.

Arrivals-hall meet and greet with a name board is available as a paid extra at checkout.
Rank, ride-hail, drop-off and the facts that move the meter
The fare into the centre is set by the city, not the meter
Roma Capitale fixes the airport run at 55,00 euro to any destination inside the Aurelian Walls, in either direction, and the figure is per journey rather than per passenger. The current tariff sheet takes its authority from Deliberazione della Giunta Capitolina n. 157 of 21 May 2026. Nothing about traffic, the hour or the route changes it.
(Roma Capitale, Dipartimento Mobilità Sostenibile e Trasporti, checked 16 September 2026)Outside the Aurelian Walls the meter comes back
The predetermined fare ends at the walls. For any airport destination with no fixed fare the tariff sheet sets a minimum of 35,00 euro, and it caps a journey between the airport and anywhere inside the Grande Raccordo Anulare at 80,00 euro. A great many apartments visitors book sit outside the walls and inside the ring road, which is exactly the band those two figures govern.
(Roma Capitale, Dipartimento Mobilità Sostenibile e Trasporti, checked 16 September 2026)A fifth passenger is charged on top of the fixed fare
The fixed fares are described as inclusive of the supplements with one exception, the supplement from the fifth passenger onwards, which is 5,00 euro charged singly for each of them. A family of five or six in a larger taxi is therefore not paying the headline figure, and that is the one add-on the fixed fare does not swallow.
(Roma Capitale, Dipartimento Mobilità Sostenibile e Trasporti, checked 16 September 2026)Rome's 9 euro minimum fare does not apply to your airport run
The city sets a minimum of 9,00 euro on an ordinary Rome taxi journey, and people arriving expect that floor to follow them out to Fiumicino. It does not. The tariff sheet carves out journeys to and from Fiumicino Airport towards destinations outside the Aurelian Walls, and those fall under the 35,00 euro airport minimum instead. The two also behave differently: supplements are added on top of the 9,00 euro floor, while they count towards the 35,00 euro one.
(Roma Capitale, Dipartimento Mobilità Sostenibile e Trasporti, checked 16 September 2026)Two municipalities' taxis work the same airport
The airport is in the Municipality of Fiumicino, not in Rome, and both fleets serve it. Fiumicino municipal taxis stand on the main road in front of T1 and T3 and on the secondary road by the railway station, with a minimum fare of 25,00 euro for a ride between the airport and the Fiumicino municipality. The municipality symbol on the front doors is what tells the two apart.
(Aeroporti di Roma (Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport), checked 16 September 2026)The cheap city ticket is not valid on the airport express
Integrated Metrebus tickets, the ones that cover Rome's ordinary urban network, are specifically not accepted on Leonardo express. The airport service has its own ticket, and you need to keep it to get through the turnstiles at the airport station and out of Roma Termini.
(Trenitalia, checked 16 September 2026)Fifteen free minutes at the kerb, then the meter starts
If someone is collecting you privately, the Kiss&Go areas at T1 and T3 give 15 minutes free at both departures and arrivals. Beyond that the driver pays at the machines for up to one more hour, and overstaying carries the penalties set out in Legislative Decree no. 33 of 22 March 2012. It is a short window for a flight that lands late.
(Aeroporti di Roma (Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport), checked 16 September 2026)Rome Fiumicino taxi questions
How much is a taxi from Rome Fiumicino Airport to the city centre?
Our price is quoted live on this page and fixed once you book. From the rank the fare is set by the city rather than the meter: 55,00 euro from the airport to any destination inside the Aurelian Walls, in either direction, per journey and not per passenger. The figure comes from Roma Capitale's current tariff sheet, whose legal reference is Deliberazione della Giunta Capitolina n. 157 of 21 May 2026, and it already includes the supplements and any motorway toll, apart from the charge for a fifth passenger.
Is the 55 euro fare fixed for everywhere in Rome?
No, and this is the detail that catches people out. It covers destinations inside the Aurelian Walls. Anywhere else, the meter applies with a minimum of 35,00 euro on a journey from the airport, and a journey between the airport and any point inside the Grande Raccordo Anulare is capped at 80,00 euro. Check whether your address is inside the walls before you assume the fixed fare.
Where is the taxi rank at Fiumicino Airport?
At the Arrivals level of Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. Authorised cars are white, carry a TAXI sign on the roof and show a licence number on the doors, at the back and inside, with the symbol of their municipality on the front doors. Aeroporti di Roma warns that any other vehicle in the arrivals area may not hold a regular taxi licence.
How much is the Leonardo Express from Fiumicino to Roma Termini?
14,00 euro for a single. Four paying adults travelling together can buy the Minigruppi ticket at 40,00 euro in one transaction, though some trains in the 2026 timetable do not admit groups on discounted tickets. A carnet of ten singles is 115,00 euro. The train runs non-stop in 32 minutes, every 15 minutes in the busiest hours, from dedicated platforms 23 and 24 at Termini. Luggage has no weight or size limit and children under 4 travel free, as does one child aged 4 to under 12 with each paying adult.
What time is the first and last train at Fiumicino Airport?
Trenitalia gives the first Leonardo express out of Roma Termini at 04:50 and the last out of the airport at 23:53. Aeroporti di Roma puts the airport departures between 05:38 and 23:27 and the Termini departures between 04:50 and 23:05, so an early flight or a very late landing falls outside the service either way.
Is there a cheaper train than the Leonardo Express?
Yes, the FL1 regional service. A second class single between the airport and any station inside the Zona Anello is 8,00 euro, and the trains run every 15 minutes on working days and every 30 minutes at weekends and on holidays. Aeroporti di Roma describes the line as the one for passengers who need stations other than Roma Termini, Roma Tiburtina among them, so the question is whether one of those leaves you closer to where you are staying.
Is there a bus from Fiumicino Airport to Rome?
Several. Terravision runs direct to Roma Termini from 4,00 euro one way and from 8,00 euro return, with luggage included, taking about 45 minutes and leaving roughly every 20 minutes from platform 18. Its Vatican service to Via Crescenzio is 6,00 euro. COTRAL, Rome Airport Bus, SIT Bus Shuttle and T.A.M. also serve the city, from stands beside Terminal 3 and, for COTRAL, the Terminal 1 stop.
Can I use my Rome travel ticket on the airport train?
Not on Leonardo express. Trenitalia states that integrated Metrebus tickets are not accepted on it. Keep whichever ticket you do buy until you are out of Roma Termini and through the turnstiles at the airport station, because both ends are gated.
Is Uber available at Rome Fiumicino Airport?
Uber's own airport page lists Taxi, Comfort, Van, Taxi Van, Black and Electric at Fiumicino, and Uber Reserve bookings up to 90 days ahead with flight tracking. It covers drop-off at the terminal kerb and sends arriving passengers to a separate FCO pick-up page for the meeting arrangements, so read that before you land. Aeroporti di Roma is clear that a chauffeur driven car has to be booked in advance and cannot be picked up from the taxi waiting area.
Where do I meet my driver at Fiumicino?
At the airport's designated pick-up point on the arrivals level of your terminal. Once you are on the ground, ring the driver on the number in your supplier details email and they will tell you exactly where to walk. Express pick-up of that kind is included in what you paid. Being met inside the hall with a name board is meet and greet, a paid extra at checkout.
How many people fit in one car, and can I have a child seat?
A saloon takes up to 3 passengers with three standard suitcases. An estate takes 4 passengers and 3 suitcases, and a people carrier 5 passengers and 4 suitcases. A family of four needs an estate or a people carrier rather than a saloon. Child seats are on request when you book: tell us the ages and we pass it to the supplier with the job. Seats are not something to count on finding in a rank car.
What happens if my flight is late, and can I cancel?
We track the flight and move the pick-up to the real landing time at no extra charge, so book for the scheduled arrival rather than padding it. The free waiting window included in your fare starts when the aircraft lands. Cancel more than 24 hours before pick-up and you pay nothing; inside 24 hours the booking is charged in full. Payment is online by card when you book, for the whole vehicle rather than per seat.
How far ahead do I need to book a transfer from Rome Fiumicino Airport?
At least 24 hours before your pick-up. We can't take bookings at shorter notice here. If you have just landed and need a car now, the airport taxi rank is the quickest option.
