How much is a taxi from Barcelona Airport to the city centre?

Barcelona El Prat sits south west of the city, between El Prat de Llobregat and the sea, and it is two airports wearing one name. Terminal T1 is the big newer building on one side of the airfield; T2A, T2B and T2C are the older row on the other. They are a free ride apart rather than a walk apart, and almost every difference between the options on this page comes back to which of the two you land at.

Our price is agreed when you book and does not move afterwards. A rank car is metered instead, and the meter Barcelona sets is unusually easy to read: one flag fall, one rate per kilometre by day and a higher one at night and at weekends, a fixed supplement for starting at the airport, and a floor below which a journey from the airport cannot be charged. That floor is the part worth knowing, because on a short hop into the nearer parts of the city it is the number that decides the fare rather than the distance.

Leave the metropolitan area and the rules change hands entirely. The fares stop being the city's and become the Generalitat's, on a different scale with its own supplements, which is why a run down the coast to Salou or up it to Lloret de Mar is priced on a wholly different basis from a run into the middle of Barcelona.

Where a booked car earns its money here is a T2 landing late at night, a large party with hold luggage, an address in Gràcia or up in the Carmel where the alternatives below stop short, or a cruise departure from the port. Travelling alone in daylight into the middle of Barcelona, the alternatives in the table below are cheaper. The meter is for the whole car, so for up to four people going into the centre by day a rank car usually comes to less than our price too, and we would rather say so on this page than let you work it out at the rank.

Where do I meet my driver at Barcelona?

  1. Know your terminal before you fly. T1 and T2 are separate buildings on opposite sides of the airfield, and the two are linked only by the free 24-hour service Aena runs between them, every 5 minutes through the day and every 10 minutes in the small hours.
  2. Contact your driver as soon as you land, their number is in your supplier details email. It arrives separately from your booking confirmation, so save it to your phone before you fly.
  3. Express pick-up is included in the price you paid: the driver waits at the airport's designated pick-up point rather than inside the hall. Aena publishes one meeting point for pre-booked chauffeur-driven cars, in the T1 car park on Floor -1, and your driver will tell you on the phone whether that is where they are.
  4. Do not join the rank queue by mistake. The public ranks are opposite the arrivals areas of T1 and of T2A, T2B and T2C, and the app cars are in the car parks, and your driver is at neither of those unless they tell you otherwise.
  5. Your flight is tracked at no charge, and your booking carries 60 minutes free waiting after your flight lands, so a slow bag belt at T1 does not cost you the car.

Arrivals-hall meet and greet with a name board is available as a paid extra at checkout.

Rank, ride-hail, drop-off and the facts that move the meter

The airport adds 4,60 euros, and nothing from the airport costs under 21

The 4,60 euro supplement applies where the airport is the origin or the destination of the service, so it is on the fare in both directions, and IMET sets a floor of 21,00 euros for any journey whose origin is the airport, supplements included. On the shorter runs into the city that floor, rather than the distance, is what you are actually paying. The Moll Adossat cruise terminal carries the same 4,60 euros, Estació de Sants adds 2,55 euros to a journey starting there, a vehicle carrying five to eight passengers adds another 4,60 euros, and a car ordered by radio or by app has its own minimum, from 8,00 euros.

(Institut Metropolità del Taxi (IMET), Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona, checked 16 September 2026)

The cruise run has its own fixed fare

Tariff T-4 is a flat 46 euros between the airport and the Moll Adossat cruise terminal in either direction, and IMET states that the figure already includes all supplements. It is the one journey at this airport where the meter is not used at all, and it is worth knowing before a driver reaches for it.

(Institut Metropolità del Taxi (IMET), Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona, checked 16 September 2026)

A toll route is charged out and back

IMET's fare page states plainly that if the customer asks for a route with a toll, the toll in both directions goes on the customer's bill. The driver has to get back, and the tariff says you pay for that half too. With a price agreed in advance none of this reaches you.

(Institut Metropolità del Taxi (IMET), Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona, checked 16 September 2026)

The ticket most visitors buy does not work at the airport

The T-casual, the ten-journey ticket almost every guidebook recommends, is not valid for entering or leaving the L9 Sud stations at the airport, and neither are the T-familiar or the T-grup. The metro needs the separate Airport ticket, 5,90 euros for 2026. T-usual, T-jove, T-dia and T-70/90 are valid, and on the railway every integrated pass is.

(Autoritat del Transport Metropolità (ATM), checked 16 September 2026)

Leave the metropolitan area and the fares change hands

The AMB's urban tariffs apply only between municipalities of the Barcelona metropolitan area and those that have signed joint-provision agreements with it. Once your destination lies outside, the fares that apply are the Generalitat de Catalunya's, on a different scale. That is the line a Salou or Lloret de Mar journey crosses within a few minutes of leaving the airport.

(Institut Metropolità del Taxi (IMET), Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona, checked 16 September 2026)

The driver owes you change only up to 20 euros

The AMB's statement of passenger rights entitles you to a receipt showing the price, the origin and destination, the licence number and the registration, and to change on a payment of up to 20 euros. Above 20 euros the AMB grants no right to change, so it is worth arriving with something smaller in your pocket.

Barcelona taxi questions

How much is a taxi from Barcelona Airport to the city centre?

Our price is quoted live on this page and fixed once you book. From the rank it is metered. On a working weekday between 08.00 and 20.00 that is tariff T-1: 2,80 euros to start, 1,35 euros a kilometre and a 4,60 euro airport supplement. At night, on Saturdays and on public holidays tariff T-2 applies, at the same start but 1,66 euros a kilometre. Whatever the arithmetic comes to, a journey beginning at the airport cannot be charged below 21,00 euros including supplements. The meter is for the whole car, so for up to four people going into the centre by day it usually comes to less than our price. These are the 2026 figures: IMET approved them on 18 December 2025 with a weighted average rise of 2,3 per cent, which is what took the airport supplement up by ten cents.

Is there a taxi rank at Barcelona Airport?

Yes, several. Aena puts ranks opposite the arrivals areas of T1, of the Barcelona-Madrid shuttle and of T2A, T2B and T2C, and at T1 the official service is on the Ground Floor. Aena also says the only official taxi in Barcelona is black and yellow, which is worth remembering if somebody approaches you inside the hall. You cannot pre-book a rank car: you queue with everyone off your flight and the flights either side of it.

Is there a train from Barcelona Airport to the city?

Yes, the R2 Nord line, and it is the option most people overlook. Aena lists it as the airport's only railway, running to Maçanet-Massanes from a single stop at Terminal T2, Floor 0. The ATM says it connects with Barcelona Sants, Passeig de Gràcia and El Clot-Aragó, departs roughly every 30 minutes from 6 am to midnight, and is part of the integrated fare network, so every integrated pass is valid on it. Land at T1 and you have to take the free inter-terminal service across first.

How long does the metro take from Barcelona Airport?

TMB gives 32 minutes from the airport to the city centre on line L9 Sud, with a train every 7 minutes and stations at both T1 and T2. The catch is that L9 Sud does not reach the centre itself: you change at Can Tries or Gornal for L10 Sud, at Torrassa for L1, at Collblanc for L5 or at Zona Universitària for L3, and that change with cases is the part the journey time does not describe.

Can I use a T-casual to get to Barcelona Airport?

Not on the metro. The ATM states that T-casual, T-familiar and T-grup are not valid for entering or leaving the L9 Sud stations at the airport. What is valid there is the T-usual, T-jove, T-dia and T-70/90, or the separate Airport ticket, which TMB prices at 5,90 euros for 2026 and sells only for the metro. On the railway and the integrated buses every integrated pass works normally.

How much is the Aerobús from Barcelona Airport?

Aerobús charges 7,75 euros for a single and 13,30 euros for a return, and children under four go free. Tickets are valid for 90 days from purchase, with the return leg good for a further 90 days from the date you travel out. Aena lists the A1 as the Terminal T1 line and the A2 as the Terminal T2 line, both running to Plaça Catalunya. The operator publishes its frequencies for the A1 only: stops at Plaça Espanya, Gran Via-Borrell and Plaça Universitat, and a service 24 hours a day, every 5 minutes from 07.15 to 22.30, every 10 minutes either side of that and every 20 minutes from 01.05 to 05.35.

Is there a coach from Barcelona Airport to Salou or Lloret de Mar?

Yes to both, and for one or two people a seat will cost less than any car. Aena lists Empresa Plana for the run down to Torredembarra, Tarragona, La Pineda, Port Aventura, Salou, Cambrils and Reus, and Sarfa for the Costa Brava, naming Lloret de Mar, Tossa de Mar, Platja d'Aro, Palamós and Roses. The stops and ticket desks are at Terminal T1, Floor 0, Arrivals, with a further ticket point for Sarfa and Sagalés Airport Line at Terminal T2B, Technical Block. What a seat cannot do is leave when you do or set you down at your door, and both towns are outside the Barcelona metropolitan area, so a rank car to either is priced on the Generalitat's scale rather than the city's.

How do I get between Terminal T1 and Terminal T2?

On Aena's free inter-terminal service, which runs 24 hours a day every day including public holidays. Aena gives it as every 5 minutes from 08.00 to 20.00, every 7 minutes from 05.00 to 08.00 and from 20.00 to midnight, and every 10 minutes from midnight to 05.00. Allow for it: the terminals are on opposite sides of the airfield and the railway station is at T2 only.

Is Uber available at Barcelona Airport?

Uber, Cabify and Bolt are all listed by Aena, and each has its own pick-up point rather than the rank. Uber's are Terminal T1 Floor 2 and Floor 0 and the Express car parks at T2A and T2B on Floor 0. Cabify uses Floor 0 at T1 and at T2A, T2B and T2C. Bolt uses Floor 0 at T1 and the Express car park at T2 arrivals. None of them collects from the taxi ranks outside arrivals.

Where will my driver meet me at Barcelona Airport?

At the airport's designated pick-up point. Aena publishes a single meeting point for pre-booked chauffeur-driven cars, in the T1 car park on Floor -1, and your driver will confirm on the phone whether that is where they are waiting. Ring them as soon as you are on the ground, on the number in your supplier details email. Express pick-up of that kind is included in what you paid; being met inside the hall with a name board is meet and greet, a paid extra you add at checkout.

How much is a taxi from the airport to the cruise port?

It is the one journey here with a fixed official fare. IMET's tariff T-4 sets 46 euros between the airport and the Moll Adossat cruise terminal in either direction, supplements included, so no meter should be running. That fare is for the whole car, so compare it with our quote before you book: what booking with us adds is a car arranged before you fly instead of a place in the rank queue.

Can I cancel, and how do I pay?

Cancel more than 24 hours before pick-up and you pay nothing; inside 24 hours the booking is charged in full. Payment is online by card when you book, for the whole vehicle rather than per seat, and the amount you see is the amount taken. A saloon takes up to 3 passengers and 3 standard suitcases, an estate 4 passengers and 3 suitcases, and a people carrier 5 passengers and 4 suitcases. The passenger and luggage capacity of each class is shown next to its price before you book. Child seats are available on request.

How far ahead do I need to book a transfer from Barcelona Airport?

At least 24 hours before your pick-up. We can't take bookings at shorter notice here. If you have just landed and need a car now, the airport taxi rank is the quickest option.
