How much is a taxi from Budapest Airport to the city centre?

Budapest Airport works from a single passenger terminal split into Terminal 2A and Terminal 2B, with one arrivals level running between the two. Everything that takes you into the city leaves from that level or from the roadway immediately outside it, so the real choice is about luggage, the hour you land and how many of you there are.

Our price is agreed when you book and does not move afterwards. The alternative is the city's official taxi tariff, and that tariff is a rate rather than a fixed fare: a base charge, a charge for every kilometre covered and a charge for every minute the car spends crawling. Budapest sets it by decree, and the same decree applies at every hour of the day and to every licensed operator, so there is no cheaper hour and no cheaper firm to hunt for.

The part that catches people out is the airport base fare. Since the summer of 2026 a journey with the airport at either end starts from a considerably higher base charge than the identical journey inside the city, and it applies leaving the airport and arriving at it. It is a fixed step rather than a percentage, so it weighs heaviest on the short hops and barely registers on a long run out of town.

Where a booked car earns its money is a late landing, a party of four or more with hold luggage, or an address that is not in the middle of Pest. What will beat us on price is the 100E Airport Express or the 200E, not the rank: once the airport base fare sits on top of the kilometre and minute charges, a metered car into the centre lands close to what we quote. Travelling alone in daylight, take the 100E and keep the difference, and we would rather say that here than let you work it out afterwards.

Airport Taxi Hub, pre-bookedCost: From £25.59, fixed, including 60 minutes free waiting after your flight landsJourney time: 37 minutesDoor to door? YesPre-bookable? Yes
Taxi from the airport rankCost: Metered on the city's official tariff, with a 2,100 HUF base fare because the airport is one end of the journey, then 520 HUF a kilometre and 130 HUF a minuteJourney time: The same roads as any car, and the meter switches to the time charge below 15 km/h, so heavy traffic adds to the fare as well as the clockDoor to door? YesPre-bookable? No
100E Airport ExpressCost: 2,500 HUF a person for one uninterrupted trip, or 1,000 HUF as an add-on if you already hold a passJourney time: BKK gives 40 minutes to Deak Ferenc ter, running around the clock: every 6 to 10 minutes in the daytime on Mondays and Fridays, 7 to 10 on other days, 30 to 40 at nightDoor to door? NoPre-bookable? No
200E bus, then metro or trainCost: One BKK single is 500 HUF bought ahead or 700 HUF on the spot and allows no transfer, so changing onto metro line M3 costs a second one; a 24-hour Budapest travelcard at 2,750 HUF covers that bus and metro route. The airport lists the Ferihegy to Nyugati trains as free with BKK passes, national and county passes or a 24, 48 or 72-hour Budapest Card, and the 300 HUF combined ticket between Terminal 2 and Ferihegy station is sold only alongside a train ticket. Where do I meet my driver at Budapest?

  1. Clear passport control and baggage reclaim and follow the signs to the arrivals level, the single floor serving both Terminal 2A and Terminal 2B. Gate H sits on the corridor between the two, which is the easiest landmark to steer by if you are describing where you are standing.
  2. Contact your driver as soon as you land, their number is in your supplier details email. It arrives separately from your booking confirmation, so save it to your phone before you fly.
  3. Express pick-up is included in the price you paid: your driver waits at the airport's designated pick-up point rather than inside the hall. Being met in the arrivals hall with a name board is meet and greet, a paid extra you add at checkout.
  4. Do not join the rank queue by mistake. The airport puts its taxi stands at the entrances of Terminal 2A and 2B with the cars lined up in front of them, and your driver is not in that line unless they have told you otherwise.
  5. Your flight is tracked at no charge, and your booking carries 60 minutes free waiting after your flight lands, so a slow belt does not cost you the car. The airport charges for every stop on the arrivals roadway and restricts it to licensed operators, which is why a driver will usually ask you to ring before you walk out rather than circling.

Contact your driver as soon as you land, their number is in your supplier details email.

Arrivals-hall meet and greet with a name board is available as a paid extra at checkout.

Rank, ride-hail, drop-off and the facts that move the meter

An airport journey starts from a different base fare

The city decree fixes the official price as a 1,300 forint base fare, 520 forints a kilometre and 130 forints a minute. Where the pick-up point or the destination is Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport the base fare is 2,100 forints instead, and the decree requires that version to be recorded on the meter's second tariff position. It is the single most useful thing to know before you join the queue.

(Budapest Municipality, decree 31/2013 (IV. 18.), checked 16 September 2026)

The airport base fare runs in both directions

BKK, the city's transport authority, introduced it on 1 August 2026 and applies it to journeys from Budapest out to the airport as well as from the airport into Budapest. There is no cheaper time of day and no cheaper operator: the official price is identical at every hour and at every service provider.

Hailing on an app does not get you round the tariff

Budapest Airport's own page for Uber says in as many words that fares in Budapest are set by taxi regulations, a 2,100 HUF base fare for airport rides on 520 HUF a kilometre and 130 HUF a minute, and that the app shows an approximate calculation once you enter the destination. The app is a way of finding a car, not a way of finding a cheaper price.

What a licensed Budapest taxi looks like

Yellow car, yellow number plates, the words minositett budapesti taxi on the left front door, the tariff table on the dashboard and both rear doors, and a sticker on the rear door windows carrying the registration and the driver's licence number. BKK lists Bolt, City Taxi, Elit Taxi, Fotaxi and Uber Taxi as the companies meeting the city taxi decree.

Two buses from the same place, and the tickets do not cross over

The 100E Airport Express and the 200E both run 24 hours a day, and both want a different ticket. The 100E is only available with the airport shuttle bus single ticket or the add-on version sold against a pass, and BKK states plainly that the airport shuttle bus single ticket is not accepted on the 200E.

(BKK Budapesti Kozlekedesi Kozpont (Centre for Budapest Transport), checked 16 September 2026)

The ordinary city ticket does not work on the airport express

BKK's own page for the single ticket says it covers almost every service inside Budapest, the suburban buses and the HEV lines, and then says it is not valid on the 100E Airport Express. Buy the wrong one at the machine and you have paid for a journey you cannot make.

(BKK Budapesti Kozlekedesi Kozpont (Centre for Budapest Transport), checked 16 September 2026)

The kerb outside arrivals is charged by the minute

The arrivals level roadway is an Authorized Vehicles Area, open only to BKK services, licensed taxis, operators holding a passenger transportation licence, authority vehicles and disabled permit holders, and it costs 800 HUF for the first five minutes and 4,400 HUF for six to thirty. That is why a driver would rather take your call than circle, and why a friend collecting you will be quietly counting.

Budapest taxi questions

How much is a taxi from Budapest Airport to the city centre?

Our price is quoted live on this page and fixed once you book. From the rank it is metered on the city's official tariff, and an airport journey starts from a 2,100 forint base fare rather than the 1,300 forints that applies inside Budapest, then adds 520 forints a kilometre and 130 forints a minute. Budapest Airport says the same, and adds that the rank operator works out a fare calculation from your exact destination address before the trip starts, so you can ask for that figure before you get in.

Is there a taxi rank at Budapest Airport?

Yes. Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport names Fotaxi as its official provider and puts the booking stands at the entrances of Terminal 2A and 2B, with the cars lined up at the ranks in front of them. You book at the stand and then take a car from the rank behind it, rather than walking straight up to the first car in the line. Every vehicle carries a card terminal.

Why is a taxi from Budapest Airport more expensive than the same trip across town?

Because of a separate airport base fare. The city decree sets the ordinary base at 1,300 forints and replaces it with 2,100 forints whenever the pick-up point or the destination is Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport, recorded on the meter's second tariff position. BKK introduced it on 1 August 2026 and applies it in both directions, so the run out to catch your flight home carries it too. Being driven out by a friend is not always free either: the five-minute grace period applies only to the first entry of the day, and after it the airport charges Premium Drop-off on the departure level at 800 HUF for up to five minutes and 4,400 HUF for six to thirty, with Terminal Parking at 600 and 1,850 HUF for the same two bands.

Is Uber available at Budapest Airport?

Yes, and BKK lists Uber Taxi alongside Bolt, City Taxi, Elit Taxi and Fotaxi as companies meeting the city taxi decree. Order in the app from Terminal 2A, take the six-digit PIN you are given to the Uber pick-up point in front of that terminal, find the first available car and read the PIN to the driver; XL cars seating six are ordered at Terminal 2B. What the app will not do is undercut the rank, because Budapest Airport states that Uber fares here are set by the same taxi regulations: 2,100 HUF base for an airport ride, 520 HUF a kilometre, 130 HUF a minute.

Is there a bus from Budapest Airport to the city centre?

Yes, the 100E Airport Express. It leaves from the arrivals level between the two terminals and runs to Deak Ferenc ter by way of Kalvin ter and Astoria, which BKK gives as a 40 minute trip into the centre. The ticket is 2,500 forints for one uninterrupted one-way journey, or 1,000 forints as an add-on if you already hold a pass, bought in the BudapestGO app or on board with a bank card. Students under 14 with a Hungarian student ID and passengers over 65 travel free. An ordinary BKK single is not valid on this line, and the 100E ticket is in turn not accepted on the 200E, so buy for the line you are actually taking.

Does the 100E run at night?

Yes. BKK states that it operates around the clock, seven days a week, and that the 200E runs 24 hours a day as well. The two publishers differ slightly on how thin it gets overnight: Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport says every 20 to 40 minutes on average, BKK says every 30 to 40. Two things are worth knowing before a night landing: heading towards the airport the 100E only calls at Astoria between 00:04 and 04:47, and the 200E is extended to Hatar ut at night, from about 23:00 on weekdays and from midnight at weekends, where the night services 914, 914A, 950, 984 and 985 take over for the city centre.

Is there a train from Budapest Airport?

Not from the terminal itself. The nearest station is Ferihegy, reached from Terminal 2 on the 200E, and from there the airport puts Nyugati railway station in the city centre at 30 minutes. Tickets are not sold at Terminal 2 at all, though the machines on the Ferihegy platform sell every domestic ticket 24 hours a day for cash or card, and the 24, 48 and 72-hour Budapest Cards from the BKK counters on the arrivals level cover the Ferihegy to Nyugati trains. Some services also need a supplementary ticket.

Is there a shuttle from Budapest Airport?

Yes. Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport names miniBUD as its official shuttle provider and gives a fixed price from 2499 HUF a person into the city centre with no base fee, including unlimited baggage, child seats, extra legroom and Wi-Fi on the way. Note that it is priced per person rather than per vehicle. We do not sell seats: a booking with us is the whole car, at one price however many of you travel.

Where do I meet my driver at Budapest Airport?

At the airport's designated pick-up point on the arrivals level. Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport publishes no single named meeting point for pre-booked cars, so ring your driver on the number in your supplier details email as soon as you are on the ground and they will tell you exactly where to walk. Gate H, on the corridor between Terminal 2A and Terminal 2B on the arrival level, is a useful landmark for describing where you are standing, and it is also where passengers with reduced mobility claim the first 20 free minutes in the designated drop-off spaces. Express pick-up is included in what you paid, and being met inside the hall with a name board is meet and greet, a paid extra at checkout.

Can I get a child seat?

Yes, on request when you book. Tell us the ages and we pass it to the supplier with the job. Seats are not something you can count on finding at a rank, which is the usual reason families book ahead here. Cars run from a saloon for up to three passengers with three standard suitcases, through an estate for four passengers with three, to a people carrier for five passengers with four, and an eight-seat vehicle above that.

What happens if my flight is late?

We track it and move the pick-up to the real landing time at no extra charge, so book for the scheduled arrival rather than padding it. The free waiting window included in your fare starts when the aircraft lands.

Can I cancel, and how do I pay?

Cancel more than 24 hours before pick-up and you pay nothing; inside 24 hours the booking is charged in full. Payment is online by card when you book, for the whole vehicle rather than per seat, and the amount you see is the amount taken.

How far ahead do I need to book a transfer from Budapest Airport?

At least 24 hours before your pick-up. We can't take bookings at shorter notice here. If you have just landed and need a car now, the airport taxi rank is the quickest option.
