When not to book us: Fife is reachable without us, and the way to do it has changed from what most guides still say. There is a direct service from Edinburgh Gateway into Dunfermline City at £7.10 for one adult, 19 to 23 minutes, roughly half-hourly, which lands you in the town centre rather than at a car park on the edge of it. Getting to Edinburgh Gateway from the terminal means the tram at £7.90 for an Adult Airport Single, so the realistic total is around £15.00 a head. We want to be precise about that £15.00: it is our arithmetic on two published fares, not a through ticket anybody sells, and about 50 minutes before you count the interchange. Two adults are therefore near £30 against a free-flow drive of about 30 minutes over 17 miles. The alternatives are worse than they look on a map. The JET 747 runs every 20 minutes in the middle of the day but terminates at Halbeath Park and Ride, and the Ember E1 goes hourly to Rosyth. Neither is the town centre, and both leave you a further journey with the cases. One traveller in daylight going to the middle of Dunfermline should take the tram and the train. Yes, directly, and this is the part most guides get wrong. Edinburgh Gateway to Dunfermline City runs 19 to 23 minutes with no changes, roughly half-hourly, at £7.10 for one adult. It is the station for the town centre.
So what does the whole journey from the airport cost?
