Getting to Edinburgh Gateway from the terminal means the tram at £7.90 for an Adult Airport Single, so the realistic total is around £15.00 a head. Two adults are therefore near £30 against a free-flow drive of about 30 minutes over 17 miles. The alternatives are worse than they look on a map. Can I reach Dunfermline town centre by train?

Yes, directly, and this is the part most guides get wrong. Edinburgh Gateway to Dunfermline City runs 19 to 23 minutes with no changes, roughly half-hourly, at £7.10 for one adult. It is the station for the town centre.

So what does the whole journey from the airport cost?

Around £15.00 per adult on our estimate, and we want you to know it is an estimate. Nobody sells a through ticket: we have added the £7.90 tram Adult Airport Single to the £7.10 fare into Dunfermline City. Allow about 50 minutes plus the wait at the interchange.

What is the difference between Dunfermline City and Queen Margaret?

They are two different stations and it is an easy mistake to make. Dunfermline City serves the town centre at £7.10. Queen Margaret is the suburban one at £7.40 and 23 minutes direct, and arriving there when you wanted the centre means another journey.
