When not to book us: La Clusaz is close enough to Geneva that the alternatives deserve a proper hearing. The resort publishes a scheduled Aravis Shuttle running five times a day between Geneva airport and La Clusaz bus station all winter, and Altibus and Alpbus take shuttle reservations from Annecy, so a couple willing to travel to a timetable will pay a good deal less than they would for a car. That is the honest comparison and we would not bury it. The case for booking a car rests on the two roads and on the party. The resort publishes both approaches, off the Autoroute Blanche at Bonneville for 20 kilometres of mountain road, or round by the A41 and Annecy Nord for 30, and it warns that roadworks can add half an hour. Choosing between them on the day is exactly what a local driver does and a scheduled service cannot. ATMB says winter holiday traffic on the Autoroute Blanche triples from Friday to Sunday with 80 000 vehicles on a Saturday, which is when most people arrive. And a metered rank car is on the higher cantonal tariff for any party over three before it has left the airport, with waiting charged at 60,00 francs an hour if it sits still.

Where you meet your driver

  1. Give the chalet name and say whether you are in the village, up at the Bossonnet or out towards Les Confins. The Aravis addresses spread a long way from the church square.
  2. Come out to the Arrivals level and ring your driver as soon as you land. The number is in the supplier details email rather than the booking confirmation.
  3. Express pick-up is included in the price paid, with the driver at the airport's designated pick-up point. Meet and greet in the arrivals hall with a name board is a paid extra at checkout.
  4. Leave the routing to the driver. The resort publishes an approach by Bonneville and an approach by Annecy Nord and warns that roadworks can add about 30 minutes, so the right choice changes with the day.
  5. From November to March the vehicle runs winter tyres or carries chains because the law in the listed mountain communes requires it, which on the climb into the Aravis is not optional equipment.

Contact your driver as soon as you land, their number is in your supplier details email.

Arrivals-hall meet and greet with a name board is available as a paid extra at checkout.

The return direction is quoted separately, because the two legs can be won by different operators. It is currently from £130.78 for a saloon.

Questions people ask about this route

How much is a taxi from Geneva Airport to La Clusaz?

Our price is quoted live above and fixed when you book. A rank car is metered on Tarif II at 3,80 francs a kilometre, the tariff that covers journeys leaving the canton and parties of more than three, plus a 7,80 franc airport pick-up charge, and waiting time runs at 60,00 francs an hour if the road stops.

How far is La Clusaz from Geneva Airport?

The tourist office's own page gives 50 km, either off the A40 at exit 16 for Bonneville and 20 km of mountain road, or off the A41 at Annecy Nord and 30 km by way of Thônes. The quote above measures the road our driver takes to your address, which comes out longer. The office warns that roadworks can add roughly 30 minutes to either approach.

Is there a shuttle from Geneva Airport to La Clusaz?

Yes. The resort publishes the Aravis Shuttle, five a day between Geneva airport and La Clusaz bus station all winter and also running in summer, and lists Altibus and Alpbus for shuttle reservations from Annecy. It is the genuine cheap option here, and it ends at the bus station rather than at your chalet door.

Which route will the driver take?

Whichever is running better. Bonneville is the shorter road distance and the one affected by Autoroute Blanche traffic; Annecy Nord is longer but sometimes clearer. Both are published by the resort, and picking between them is the sort of judgement that changes an arrival time by half an hour.

How bad is the traffic on a winter Saturday?

ATMB says winter holiday traffic on the Autoroute Blanche is multiplied by three from Friday to Sunday, with 80 000 vehicles on Saturdays, and it publishes density forecasts by sector. Bonneville sits on that stretch. Our price does not change if the road does, which a meter cannot promise.

Do we need winter tyres or chains?

The vehicle does, from 1 November to 31 March in the mountain communes listed by prefectural order: anti-skid devices for at least two drive wheels, or four winter tyres, on any vehicle with four or more wheels. Thirty-four departments are covered and signs mark each zone.

Do we need a car once we are there?

Usually not. The resort lists shuttles and skibuses operated by Transdev Mont-Blanc serving the hamlets and accommodation areas of La Clusaz, Le Grand-Bornand, Saint-Jean-de-Sixt, Manigod and Thônes. Most people who hire a car for a week in the Aravis are paying to park it.

How many of us fit in one vehicle?

A saloon takes three passengers and three standard suitcases, an estate four passengers, a people carrier five, and the largest vehicle we quote eight. Ski bags count as luggage. Four of you in the Aravis is an estate or a people carrier rather than a saloon, so count the bags honestly. Child seats are on request.

What if our flight is delayed?

We track it and move the pick-up to the real landing time at no extra charge, and the free waiting window in your fare starts when the aircraft lands. Book for the scheduled arrival rather than padding it.

How do we pay, and what if we cancel?

Payment is online by card when you book and covers the whole vehicle rather than the seat count. Cancel more than 24 hours before pick-up and nothing is charged; inside 24 hours the fare is payable in full.
