When not to book us: The honest position here is that the practical gap between a car and everything else is at its narrowest, because the journey is short enough that travelling to a timetable costs you very little time. Les Carroz is 50 minutes from the airport and 15 from the motorway exit, and there is a real public route, though not a direct coach from the airport: the Léman Express L3 reaches Cluses from the Geneva stations in 1h30, and the Les Carroz Flaine Express runs up from Cluses if you book it in advance. For the airport itself the resort lists professional transport companies rather than a scheduled service. Once you are in the village three free ski bus lines link the hamlets to the Kédeuze cable car, so nobody needs a car for the week. That last point is worth more than the transfer saving to most people. The booked car still wins in three situations and they are common ones. Four or more of you, because a metered rank car goes onto the higher cantonal tariff at 3,80 francs a kilometre for any party over three before the destination is even considered. A chalet out at La Frasse or Les Servages rather than in the centre, where a scheduled service leaves you a walk. And any Saturday between Christmas and Easter, when ATMB says traffic on the Autoroute Blanche triples and 80 000 vehicles use it, and a fixed price simply stops caring.

Where you meet your driver

  1. Give the hamlet as well as the chalet name. The commune is Arâches-la-Frasse and the accommodation is scattered between Les Carroz centre, La Frasse, Les Feux and Les Servages.
  2. Come out to the Arrivals level and ring your driver as soon as you land. The number is in the supplier details email rather than the booking confirmation.
  3. Express pick-up is included in the price paid, with the driver at the airport's designated pick-up point. Meet and greet in the arrivals hall with a name board is a paid extra at checkout.
  4. From November to March the vehicle runs winter tyres or carries chains because the law in the listed mountain communes requires it. The climb from the motorway is short here but it is still a mountain road.

Contact your driver as soon as you land, their number is in your supplier details email.

Arrivals-hall meet and greet with a name board is available as a paid extra at checkout.

Questions people ask about this route

How much is a taxi from Geneva Airport to Les Carroz?

Our price is quoted live above and fixed when you book. A rank car is metered on Tarif II at 3,80 francs a kilometre, the tariff for any journey leaving the canton and any party of more than three, plus a 7,80 franc airport pick-up charge. The canton's flat airport fares of 25 to 60 francs only cover zones inside the cantonal boundary.

How long is the transfer from Geneva to Les Carroz?

The resort gives 50 minutes from the airport by car and an estimated 15 minutes from the motorway exit, and around 45 minutes under its Access by plane heading. You leave the A40 at exit 19 signed Flaine and Les Carroz, follow the RN 205 towards Sallanches, turn left at the roundabout near the Magland Super U onto the D6 and come up through Arâches. The quote above measures the road to your address.

Are the ski buses in Les Carroz free?

Yes, all three lines. Line A runs Pré du Bois to the tourist office to the cable car, line BC serves La Frasse, Arâches, Le Laÿs, Le Bry and Les Feux, and line D links the cable car with Les Genièvres and Les Servages. They all serve the Kédeuze cable car, which is the start of the ski runs.

What does Les Carroz ski, and how do I get to the lifts?

The resort calls itself the gateway to the Grand Massif, which the Samoëns tourist office describes as 265 km of pistes across five interlinked resorts, Flaine, Les Carroz, Morillon, Samoëns and Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval. The Kédeuze cable car is the start of the ski runs, and all three free ski bus lines pass through the town centre and stop at the tourist office on their way to it.

Should we hire a car instead?

For most stays here, no. The free ski bus covers the hamlets and the lift base, the transfer is under an hour each way, and a hire car in winter needs the legal winter equipment and somewhere to sit for six days. Book a transfer in and out and spend the difference on the pass.

Do we need chains or winter tyres?

The vehicle does. From 1 November to 31 March, in the mountain communes listed by prefectural order, any vehicle with four or more wheels must carry anti-skid devices for at least two drive wheels or run four winter tyres. Signs mark the zones and studded tyres are exempt.

Does the winter traffic add much time?

On a Saturday, yes. ATMB says winter holiday traffic on the Autoroute Blanche is multiplied by three from Friday to Sunday and that 80 000 vehicles use it on a Saturday, with separate density forecasts for the Cluses sector. The amount you agreed does not change when that happens.

How many of us fit in one vehicle?

A saloon takes three passengers and three standard suitcases, an estate four passengers, a people carrier five, and the largest vehicle we quote eight. Ski bags count as luggage, and the vehicle class rather than the road is what usually moves the price, so count them when you book. Child seats are on request.

What if our flight is late?

We track it and move the pick-up to the real landing time at no extra charge, and the free waiting window in your fare starts when the aircraft lands. Book for the scheduled arrival rather than padding it.

How do we pay, and what if we cancel?

Payment is online by card when you book and covers the whole vehicle rather than the seat count. Cancel more than 24 hours before pick-up and nothing is charged; inside 24 hours the fare is payable in full.
