How this compares
| Option | Cost for 2 | Journey time | Door to door? | Pre-bookable? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Airport Taxi Hub, pre-booked | Cost for 2: £314.56 one price per car, up to 3 passengersFrom £314.56, fixed, including 60 minutes free waiting after your flight lands | Journey time: 2 hours 39 minutes | Door to door? Yes | Pre-bookable? Yes |
| Rank taxi from the airport, metered | Cost for 2: Tarif II at 3,80 francs a kilometre for a journey leaving the canton, plus a 7,80 franc airport pick-up charge, with waiting charged at 60,00 francs an hour | Journey time: Three hours from Genève, the indicative driving time the tourist office publishes | Door to door? Yes | Pre-bookable? No |
| Rail to Bourg-Saint-Maurice, then the valley bus | Cost for 2: A cross-border rail ticket, then the fare for the last 40 minutes up the D902 | Journey time: Bourg-Saint-Maurice is 40 minutes from the resort by bus or taxi | Door to door? No | Pre-bookable? Yes |
When not to book us: Bourg-Saint-Maurice is a real railhead rather than a technicality: the tourist office lists direct services from Paris, London, Brussels and Amsterdam, and the resort is 40 minutes above it. Two people arriving with soft bags and time in hand will pay less by taking the railway and the valley bus for that final section, and once you are in Tignes the resort's own free shuttles mean you never need a car again. The argument for the booked car at Tignes is mostly about the road, and the resort makes it for us. It publishes a warning that satnavs offer the Petit Saint Bernard and the Iseran, and that both are closed in winter, which is the sort of mistake that ends a transfer day rather than lengthening it. The Iseran is the highest road pass in the Alps at 2,770 metres and does not open until June. A driver who works the D902 every week is not going to be routed over it, and from the first of November to the thirty-first of March the car is carrying chains or running winter tyres because the law in the listed communes requires it. Add four people and ski bags, which tips a metered rank car onto the higher cantonal tariff before it leaves the airport, and agreeing one number in advance stops being a matter of convenience.
Where you meet your driver
- Book to the village, not to Tignes. Val Claret, Le Lac, Le Lavachet, Tignes 1800 and Les Brévières are strung out over a long climb and a driver sent to the wrong one costs you half an hour at the end of a flight.
- Come out to the Arrivals level and ring your driver as soon as you land. The number is in the supplier details email rather than the confirmation, so save it before you fly.
- Express pick-up is included, with the driver at the airport's designated pick-up point. Meet and greet in the arrivals hall with a name board is a paid extra chosen at checkout.
- If you are also hiring a car for part of the trip, check the route it is being given. The resort warns that satnavs propose the Petit Saint Bernard and the Iseran, and that both are closed in winter.
- Once you arrive, leave the driving behind: Tignes runs free shuttle buses and advises visitors to park near their accommodation and use them rather than move a car around the resort.
Contact your driver as soon as you land, their number is in your supplier details email.
Arrivals-hall meet and greet with a name board is available as a paid extra at checkout.

Questions people ask about this route
How much is a taxi from Geneva Airport to Tignes?
Our price is quoted live above and fixed when you book. A metered rank car is charged on Tarif II at 3,80 francs a kilometre, the tariff that covers journeys leaving the canton and parties of more than three, plus a 7,80 franc airport pick-up charge. If the car is held up, waiting time runs at 60,00 francs an hour on the same scale.
What is the road route from Geneva to Tignes?
The tourist office publishes one route for the resort and it does not begin at Geneva: the A430 from Chambéry to Albertville, dual carriageway as far as Moûtiers, the N90 to Bourg-Saint-Maurice and then the D902 up to Tignes. A car from Geneva picks that road up at the Albertville end rather than at Chambéry, and the office gives three hours as the indicative driving time from Genève. It also warns that GPS devices may propose the Petit Saint Bernard or the Iseran instead, and that both passes are closed in winter.
Is the Col de l'Iseran open in winter?
No. It is the highest mountain road pass in the Alps at 2,770 metres, linking the Tarentaise and the Maurienne, and it is open only in the summer season from June to October, with the reopening date depending on how the snow clearing goes. Anyone offered it as a shortcut between November and May is being offered a closed road.
Is there a train to Tignes?
Not into the resort. Bourg-Saint-Maurice is the nearest station, 40 minutes away by bus or taxi, and the tourist office lists direct services to it from Paris, London, Brussels and Amsterdam. From Geneva you would reach it across the border by rail, which is why most Geneva arrivals drive the whole way instead.
Do we need winter tyres or chains?
The vehicle does, from 1 November to 31 March, in the mountain communes listed by prefectural order: either removable anti-skid devices for at least two drive wheels or four winter tyres. It applies to cars, vans, motorhomes, coaches and lorries alike, and signs mark each zone. A pre-booked car arrives equipped; a hire car may not.
Which Tignes village should I give as the address?
Whichever one you are staying in. Val Claret is the highest and the furthest, Le Lac and Le Lavachet sit by the lake, and Tignes 1800 and Les Brévières are lower down the D902. They are separated by real distance and altitude, not by street corners.
Are the shuttles in Tignes free?
Yes. The resort runs free shuttle buses and specifically advises parking near your accommodation and using them instead of moving a car about. That is worth knowing before anyone books a hire car for a week on the strength of getting between the villages.
How many people and ski bags fit in one vehicle?
A saloon takes three passengers and three standard suitcases, an estate four passengers and three cases, a people carrier five and four, and the eight-seat vehicle we quote takes eight of each. Ski and board bags count as luggage on every one of them, so add them to the count before you choose the car rather than after.
What if the flight is delayed or the weather closes in?
We track the flight and move the pick-up to the real landing time at no charge, and the free waiting window in your fare starts when the aircraft lands. If snow slows the climb, the price you agreed does not move, which is the difference between a fixed fare and a running meter on a mountain road.
How do we pay and what are the cancellation terms?
Payment is online by card when you book and covers the whole vehicle rather than the seat count. Cancel more than 24 hours before pick-up and nothing is charged; inside 24 hours the fare is payable in full.
