When not to book us: Val d'Isère is the one Geneva corridor where the alternatives are genuinely competitive for a couple. Direct coaches run from Geneva airport through the season, and the rail route works too: Bourg-Saint-Maurice is a proper station, the bus up from it takes around 40 minutes, and the tourist office describes it as regular shuttle buses running throughout the day, the ideal option for a stress-free arrival. If you are two people with soft bags and no fixed arrival time, do one of those and spend the difference on the lift pass. What flips the decision is distance and party size, and the numbers are not close. The tourist office gives 220 kilometres and about three hours from Geneva, and a metered rank car would run Tarif II at 3,80 francs a kilometre across all of it, on the higher tariff twice over because the journey leaves the canton and because four people is more than three. Skis are charged separately at 1,50 francs a pair. The road ends at the resort in winter, since the Iseran above it is the highest pass in the Alps at 2,770 metres and does not open until June, so there is no alternative approach if the valley road is slow. That is the case for agreeing one number before you leave home rather than watching one accumulate.

Where you meet your driver

  1. Give the chalet or residence name and say whether you are in the village, La Daille or Le Fornet. The resort runs a long way along the valley floor and the names matter more than the street does.
  2. Come out to the Arrivals level and call your driver as soon as you land. The number is in the supplier details email, which arrives separately from your booking confirmation.
  3. Count the ski and board bags when you book, not at the kerb. They set the vehicle size here, and a metered rank car would add 1,50 francs for each pair of skis on top of the fare.
  4. Express pick-up is included in the price paid, with the driver at the airport's designated pick-up point. Being met in the hall with a name board is meet and greet, a paid extra at checkout.
  5. From November to March the car is on winter tyres or carrying chains because the law in the listed mountain communes requires it, which on a three hour approach up the Tarentaise is not a formality.

Contact your driver as soon as you land, their number is in your supplier details email.

Arrivals-hall meet and greet with a name board is available as a paid extra at checkout.

Questions people ask about this route

How much is a taxi from Geneva Airport to Val d'Isere?

Our price is quoted live above and fixed when you book. A rank car is metered on Tarif II at 3,80 francs a kilometre, the tariff that applies both outside the canton and to parties of more than three, across a road the tourist office gives as 220 km, with a 7,80 franc airport pick-up charge and 1,50 francs for every pair of skis.

How far is Val d'Isere from Geneva Airport?

The tourist office gives 220 km and about three hours by road. The quote above measures the road to your exact address instead, so the two figures will not match, but either way this is the longest of our Geneva ski corridors. Book an arrival that leaves daylight at the far end rather than the last flight of the evening.

Is there a train or a direct bus to Val d'Isère?

Both, after a fashion. Direct coaches run from Geneva airport through the season, operated by Alpine Fleet, Altibus and Ben's Bus among others, and they set down at the La Daille bus station rather than in the village centre. By rail the nearest station is Bourg-Saint-Maurice, around 40 minutes away, and the tourist office describes the connection from it as regular shuttle buses running throughout the day. There is no railway into the resort itself.

Can we drive over the Col de l'Iseran to get there?

Not in winter. The tourist office states that the Col de l'Iseran road is closed in winter. It is the highest road pass in the Alps at 2,770 metres, it links the Tarentaise with the Maurienne, and it opens only from June to October, with the date depending on snow clearing. In the ski season the approach is from Bourg-Saint-Maurice and nowhere else.

Where exactly will the driver drop us?

At the chalet, residence or hotel door, which is the whole point of booking one. Give the building name and say whether you are in the village, La Daille or Le Fornet. The resort runs a long way along the valley floor, and the coach alternative now terminates at La Daille rather than the centre, so the door drop is worth more here than it looks on a map.

Are chains or winter tyres compulsory?

Yes, for the vehicle. From 1 November to 31 March, in the mountain communes listed by prefectural order, any vehicle with four or more wheels must carry anti-skid devices for at least two drive wheels or run four winter tyres. Thirty-four departments are covered and signs mark the zones. Our supplier's car complies; a hire car collected at the terminal may not.

Do we need a car once we are in the resort?

Usually not. The tourist office says free shuttles run regularly around Val d'Isere in both winter and summer, and publishes a separate page for the car parks. For most visitors a transfer in and out beats a hire car sitting in a car park for a week.

How many of us fit in one vehicle?

A saloon carries three passengers with two or three standard suitcases, depending on the car quoted. An estate carries four with three, a people carrier five with four, and the largest vehicle we quote takes eight passengers and eight bags. Ski and board bags count as luggage, so a party of four with skis usually needs more than the cheapest car on the list.

What if our flight is late?

We track it and move the pick-up to the real landing time at no extra charge, and the free waiting window in your fare starts when the aircraft lands. On a three hour transfer that matters: the alternative is a driver who has left, or a meter that has been running.

How do we pay, and can we cancel?

Payment is online by card at the time of booking and covers the whole vehicle rather than the seat count. Cancelling more than 24 hours before pick-up costs nothing; inside 24 hours the fare is charged in full.
