How this compares

Travelling as
Airport Taxi Hub, pre-bookedCost for 2: £335.65 one price per car, up to 3 passengersFrom £335.65, fixed, including 60 minutes free waiting after your flight landsJourney time: 2 hours 20 minutesDoor to door? YesPre-bookable? Yes
Rank taxi from the airport, meteredCost for 2: Tarif II at 3,80 francs a kilometre, because the journey leaves the canton, plus a 7,80 franc airport pick-up charge and 1,50 francs for each case or pair of skisJourney time: The resort lists Geneva among four airports under two and a half hours away; the meter runs for whatever the day actually takesDoor to door? YesPre-bookable? No
Rail to Moûtiers, then the S63Cost for 2: Two tickets: the cross-border rail leg to Moûtiers, then the regional S63 fare for the 40 kilometres up the valleyJourney time: About 45 minutes from Moûtiers station by bus or taxiDoor to door? NoPre-bookable? Yes

When not to book us: If you are one or two people with soft bags and a flexible day, the railway to Moûtiers and the regional S63 up to the resort will cost less than any car, and we would say so rather than pretend otherwise. It is a long chain of connections with a change and a wait in it, and the last leg is the D117 whatever you travel in. Where the booked car earns its keep at Val Thorens is the specific shape of this journey. Almost all of the climb happens in the last 40 kilometres, on a road under a legal winter equipment obligation from the first of November to the thirty-first of March, and the resort tells drivers outright to ignore the D96 shortcut a GPS may offer because it is narrow and regularly closed. Four people plus ski bags also tips a rank car onto the higher cantonal tariff before it has left the airport, because Tarif II applies both outside the canton and whenever more than three passengers are carried. And a resort at 2,300 metres with a season that runs into May is a place where the weather that closes the road is normal rather than exceptional, which is exactly when a price agreed in advance stops being a convenience and starts being the point.

Where you meet your driver

  1. Book to the building name and the district, not to Val Thorens. The resort is a compact grid of apartment blocks stacked up a slope, and a driver sent to the wrong end of it costs you a walk uphill with skis at the end of a long day.
  2. Come out to the Arrivals level and ring your driver as soon as you land. The number is in the supplier details email rather than the booking confirmation, so save it to your phone before you leave home.
  3. Tell us about ski and board bags when you book. They decide the vehicle here rather than the boot arrangement, and a rank car would charge 1,50 francs for each pair of skis on top of the meter.
  4. Express pick-up is included: the driver waits at the airport's designated pick-up point. Being met in the hall with a name board is meet and greet, a paid extra chosen at checkout.
  5. In winter the car will be on winter tyres or carrying chains because the law requires it from 1 November to 31 March in the listed mountain communes, and the resort itself advises keeping the equipment on to the end of the season as the highest village in Europe.

Contact your driver as soon as you land, their number is in your supplier details email.

Arrivals-hall meet and greet with a name board is available as a paid extra at checkout.

Questions people ask about this route

How much is a taxi from Geneva Airport to Val Thorens?

Our price is quoted live above and fixed when you book. A rank car is metered on the cantonal scale, and it is the higher scale: Tarif II at 3,80 francs a kilometre applies to any journey bound outside the canton and to any journey carrying more than three passengers, with a 7,80 franc airport pick-up charge before the wheels turn and 1,50 francs for every case or pair of skis.

How long does the transfer from Geneva to Val Thorens take?

It is one of the longer runs out of Geneva and the live estimate above is the honest one for clear conditions. The shape of it matters more than the total: motorway as far as Albertville and the valley, then the D117 from exit 41 climbing continuously to the resort. That last section is the part that lengthens in snow, and the resort warns drivers off the narrow D96 that a GPS may offer as a shortcut from Moûtiers.

Is there a bus from Geneva Airport to Val Thorens?

Not directly from the airport. The valley railhead is Moûtiers, about 45 minutes below the resort by bus or taxi, and from there the region runs the S63 service up to Val Thorens. Inside the Belleville valley itself, the commune provides free shuttles between and within Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, Les Menuires and Val Thorens, so getting about once you have arrived costs nothing.

How high is Val Thorens?

2,300 metres, which Les 3 Vallées gives as the highest ski resort in Europe. The practical consequence for a transfer is the season: snow lies from November into May and the resort closes on the first weekend in May, so the winter driving conditions on the approach road last longer here than at a valley resort.

Do I need snow chains in the car?

The vehicle does, and ours has them. From 1 November to 31 March, in the mountain communes listed by prefectural order, any vehicle with four or more wheels must carry anti-skid devices for at least two drive wheels or run four winter tyres. Thirty-four departments are covered and roadside signs mark each zone. A hire car picked up at the terminal may not be equipped.

Can you take us straight to the apartment door?

Yes, which is most of the reason people book. Give the residence name and the district in the booking notes. Val Thorens is built as a stack of apartment buildings with a pedestrian core, and the difference between the right drop and the wrong one is a climb with luggage rather than a short walk.

How many of us fit in one vehicle with ski bags?

Three passengers and three standard suitcases is a saloon; four passengers and three cases is an estate; five and four is a people carrier; eight passengers and eight bags is the largest vehicle we quote. Ski and board bags count against the luggage figure rather than the seats, which is what catches most groups out on this corridor.

What happens if my flight is delayed or the road is closed?

We track the flight and move the pick-up to the real landing time at no extra charge, and the free waiting window in your fare starts when the aircraft lands. If weather slows the climb, the amount you agreed does not move: that risk sits with us rather than with a running meter.

Can I book the return to the airport at the same time?

Yes, and for Val Thorens it is worth doing. Saturday morning departures out of the Belleville valley all happen in the same two hours, and a car confirmed in advance for a stated time is a different proposition from finding one on the day.

What are the payment and cancellation terms?

Payment is online by card when you book and covers the whole vehicle, not the seat count. Cancel more than 24 hours before pick-up and nothing is charged; inside 24 hours the fare is payable in full. The amount you see quoted is the amount taken.
