When not to book us: This is the one airport where we expect most people not to book us. ExCeL says London City is its closest airport, a 15-minute walk or a short trip by DLR, bus or taxi. The DLR reaches Custom House in about 13 minutes with a change at Canning Town for £2.20 off-peak, and the 474 bus does it in about 7 minutes for £1.85. One person with a cabin bag should take either and keep the money. The car is for what those fares do not carry: a team of three with hold luggage, an exhibitor with display cases or a pull-up stand, a hall at the east end, or a late landing when nobody wants to drag a suitcase through an interchange. The road is 2.2 km, so what you are paying for is the door, not the distance.
Which traveller are you?
| If you are | What we would suggest |
|---|---|
| One person with a cabin bag | The DLR or the bus. Either is far cheaper than any car. |
| Happy to walk, light luggage | Walk. ExCeL itself suggests it. |
| A team with hold cases | Price the car. One amount covers everyone and the bags go in the boot. |
| Exhibitor bringing display material | Book the car to the entrance nearest your stand. |
| Landing late in the evening | The car, if you would rather not change trains with a suitcase. |
Where you meet your driver
- London City Airport sends pre-booked minicabs and executive cars to the pick-up area in its Short Stay car park. The black cabs outside the terminal are a separate, metered rank, so walk past them to your driver.
- Your flight is watched, so an early or late arrival shifts the collection with it. Express pick-up is included; a name board inside arrivals is meet and greet, a paid extra at checkout.
- Choose your end of ExCeL before you get in. ExCeL points ICC visitors to the East Entrance, nearest Prince Regent; the West Entrance by Custom House serves the other end, and the two are about 600 m apart inside the building.
- ExCeL's event pages say the road across the campus, Sandstone Lane and Seagull Lane, is closed, so cars set down at the entrance points rather than beside a hall. ExCeL names those as West (E16 1XL) and East (E16 1FR) in the coach and minibus part of its page and publishes no separate car or taxi bays.
Contact your driver as soon as you land, their number is in your supplier details email.
Arrivals-hall meet and greet with a name board is available as a paid extra at checkout.

Questions people ask about this route
How do I get from London City Airport to ExCeL?
By DLR to Custom House, changing at Canning Town, in about 13 minutes; by the 474 bus in about 7; or on foot, which ExCeL puts at 15 minutes. A pre-booked car makes sense when there are several of you or you are carrying more than a cabin bag.
Can I walk from London City Airport to ExCeL?
Yes. ExCeL describes it as a 15-minute walk, and it is the venue's closest airport. With a large case or a box of stand material it is a long 15 minutes, which is where a short car ride starts to make sense.
Is there a direct train from London City to ExCeL?
Not quite. The DLR route TfL's planner gave changes at Canning Town and takes about 13 minutes to Custom House, at £2.20 an adult off-peak or £2.30 at peak. The 474 bus has no change and took about 7 minutes in the same sample.
How do I get from London City to WTM London?
WTM London runs at ExCeL from 3 to 5 November 2026, and the organiser puts the taxi drop-off and pick-up point at the west end. The DLR to Custom House arrives at that end too. For a stand team arriving with luggage, a car to the west end avoids the change at Canning Town.
Can you collect us from ExCeL to fly out of London City?
Yes, booked as its own journey in the reverse section of this page. The drive is 3.1 km, about 7 minutes with nothing on the road, but give yourself slack for traffic leaving the venue at the end of a show day.
