When not to book us: Of the three Lanzarote resorts we price, this is the one with the weakest case for booking a car, and the reason is simply that it is close. Under 12 km of road, about 17 minutes clear, and a rank meter that lands near 20 euros for the whole vehicle on the daytime band with the airport charge included. Two people splitting that are not being gouged, and line 161 undercuts even it, dropping along the strip from Matagorda to Balcon de Mar every half hour or so from half past seven in the morning. Where the case turns is the same place it always turns: the edges. The last departure out of the terminals is 21:30, with only the 22:30 run on line 61 behind it, and nothing at all after that. Line 161 also refuses passengers who only want to travel within Puerto del Carmen, so it is a way into the resort and not a way around it. Add the Old Town end, where the walk from the main road is real, or a party of five with hold bags, and the fixed price for a car that waits for a delayed flight starts to be worth the gap. On a two o'clock arrival for a couple staying at Matagorda, it honestly is not.
Where you meet your driver
- After baggage reclaim, stay inside the arrivals hall on floor 0 until you have spoken to your driver. Your driver waits at the airport's designated pick-up point, which is separate from the rank outside.
- Contact your driver as soon as you land, their number is in your supplier details email, which arrives on its own rather than attached to the confirmation.
- Say which end of the resort you are staying in. Matagorda, the Avenida and the Old Town are strung out along several kilometres of front and the driver is quoted to your address, not to the resort.
- Express pick-up comes with the fare. If you want somebody holding a name board inside the hall, that is meet and greet and you add it at checkout as a paid extra.
- If you end up on the rank instead, the local rules are on your side: in Tias the taximeter must sit in the centre of the dashboard and light up so you can read the total as it runs, the roof module shows which tariff is being charged, and no supplement outside the tariff may be added to the bill.

The return direction is quoted separately, because the two legs can be won by different operators. It is currently from £27.84 for a saloon.
Questions people ask about this route
How much is a taxi from Lanzarote Airport to Puerto del Carmen?
We quote our figure live above, for the whole vehicle. On the rank it is metered: 11.7 km, at a 3.85 euro start covering the first 1,500 metres and the weekday daytime rate of 1.35 euros a kilometre after them, plus the 2.10 euro airport charge, comes to roughly 20 euros, and the night, Sunday and holiday band at 1.55 euros to roughly 22. Those totals are our arithmetic over the published tariff, not a quoted fare.
Is there a bus from the airport to Puerto del Carmen?
Yes. Line 161 leaves both terminals between 07:30 and 21:30, about every half hour through the day, and runs along the resort from Matagorda to the far end before continuing to Puerto Calero and Playa Blanca. Note the operator's own rule: inside Puerto del Carmen it will not pick up passengers who only want to travel within Puerto del Carmen.
What is the latest service from the airport into the resort?
Line 61 at 22:30, which calls at Matagorda, Hotel Jameos, Costa Mar, Hotel San Antonio, C.C. Welcome Sea, Casino, C.C. Atlantico, Apart. Caleton Blanco, C.C. Biosfera and Balcon de Mar. Nothing scheduled runs after it, so a flight landing late leaves you with the rank or a booking.
How far is Puerto del Carmen from the airport?
About 11.7 km, which is roughly 17 minutes with a clear road, on the LZ-2 and then the LZ-35 and LZ-505. Matagorda, at the near end of the strip, is closer still. It is the shortest of the island's resort transfers by some margin.
Can a driver add extras to the metered fare?
Not ones that are not in the tariff. Article 29 of the Tias taxi regulation makes the approved fares binding on the driver and the passenger alike and expressly forbids charging any supplement the rules do not provide for. Urban fares are set by the council in plenary session and interurban fares by the Canary Islands government, and an interurban trip also needs an authorisation from the island Cabildo.
How do I check the meter is on the right tariff?
Look at the roof. In Tias the illuminated module on the front of the roof has to show, from outside the car, which tariff is running, and the taximeter itself must sit on the centre third of the dashboard and light up so you can read the amount at any moment during the journey.
Can you provide a wheelchair accessible vehicle?
Tell us at the time of booking and we will quote for one rather than promising it afterwards. For context, the Tias regulation requires at least 15 per cent of the municipality's taxi licences to be held by adapted vehicles, so adapted cars do exist locally, but availability at a given hour is not something we will guess at.
Do you price per seat?
No, per vehicle. Three people and three standard suitcases fit a saloon, an estate adds a fourth seat with the same three cases, five people fit a people carrier and eight fit the largest option. Child seats are available on request when you book.
Delays and cancellations, how do they work?
The inbound flight is tracked at no cost and the pick-up moves to the real landing time, with the free waiting window in your fare running from touchdown. Cancel more than 24 hours out and there is no charge; within 24 hours the booking is charged in full. Payment is by card online when you book.
