When not to book us: This is the pair where the coach ticket is hardest to argue with and hardest to live with. Seventeen euros a head to Lagos bus terminal is cheap for 90 km, and for one person landing at midday in July with a rucksack there is no case for a car at all. What you are buying with the 17 euros is a stopping service: the run calls at Albufeira, Lagoa and Portimao terminals and takes about 1 hour 55 minutes against a free-flow drive of roughly 85, so the coach costs you the better part of an extra hour at the end of a flying day. Three situations flip it. Winter, because only two of the seven weekday departures run outside summer and neither is late enough for an evening arrival. A party, because our fare is for the vehicle and three coach seats are three times 17 euros. And the addresses: Lagos spreads a long way past the bus terminal, out to Meia Praia in one direction and up the hill to Luz and Praia da Luz in the other, and the coach leaves you with a final taxi anyway. If you are going to the old town in daylight in August, take the coach and spend the difference. If you are landing at ten at night in March with two children, do not.

Where you meet your driver

  1. Give the exact address when you book. Lagos town, Meia Praia, Porto de Mos and Praia da Luz are separate destinations with separate prices, and the old town's walled streets are narrow enough that the driver needs to know which gate to approach.
  2. Screenshot your supplier details email before you fly. It carries the driver's mobile number and arrives separately from the booking confirmation, and roaming data at the airport is not something to rely on.
  3. Contact your driver as soon as you land, their number is in your supplier details email. Faro Airport publishes no fixed meeting point for pre-booked drivers, so what the driver tells you beats any sign in the hall.
  4. Your driver waits at the airport's designated pick-up point, which is what express pick-up means and is included in the price. A name board in the arrivals hall is meet and greet, a paid extra chosen at checkout.
  5. Flight tracking is included, so a delayed inbound moves the collection instead of forfeiting it, and free waiting starts when the wheels are down. On the return leg allow for the full run west to east: this is a 90 km journey, the longest on our Faro list.

The return direction is quoted separately, because the two legs can be won by different operators. It is currently from £69.49 for a saloon.

Questions people ask about this route

How far is Lagos from Faro Airport?

About 90 km, roughly 56 miles, almost all of it on the A22 Via do Infante after a short run out of the airport on the EN 125-10 and the EN 125. Free-flow routing gives about 85 minutes, which is a best case on an empty road rather than a typical August time.

Is there a bus from Faro Airport to Lagos?

Yes. Vamus line 56, the Aerobus, runs from the airport to Lagos Terminal Rodoviario for 17 euros a single, calling at Albufeira, Lagoa and Portimao on the way and taking about 1 hour 55 minutes. Weekday departures from the airport are 08h30, 09h30, 11h15, 12h30, 14h30, 16h00 and 18h15.

Is the Aerobus cheaper than a taxi to Lagos?

For one or two people, clearly. Two singles are 34 euros for a 90 km journey, and we are not going to pretend a car beats that on price. Our fare is per vehicle rather than per seat, so the gap closes at three and reverses at four, when the party travels in an estate or a people carrier priced as one car. The car also spares you the hour the stopping coach adds.

How many coaches a day are there in winter?

Two on a weekday. Five of the seven departures from the airport are marked Verao, meaning summer only, which leaves 11h15 and 18h15 running year round. A flight landing after eight in the evening in January has no coach to catch.

Can I take the train from Faro Airport to Lagos?

Not from the airport, because there is no station there. You would travel into Faro first and pick up a CP regional service, which runs daily through Albufeira, Silves and Portimao to Lagos at the western end of the line. Lagos station is at least in the town, which is more than can be said for some stops on that line.

What is the difference between line 56 and line 57?

Line 56 is the Aerobus and is the one that calls at the airport. Line 57, branded Transrapido, runs between Faro city and Lagos, and line 51 follows the coast road from Albufeira through Lagoa, Praia da Rocha and Alvor into Lagos. If you are arriving by air, 56 is the one that matters.

Does the meter include the toll on the A22?

No. Under the national tariff the toll is payable by the passenger on top of the meter reading, and Faro Airport names the Via do Infante specifically. Our price includes it, which on a 90 km run is not a rounding difference. Under the new national tariff the meter charges 0.58 euros a kilometre and 0.28 euros a minute for 2026, though until about 27 October 2026 a car whose meter has not been reprogrammed may still charge the previous tariff.

Do you go to Praia da Luz, Meia Praia and Burgau?

Yes, each quoted to its own address rather than to a single Lagos rate. Enter the address or postcode and the price shown is for that journey, including the climb west out of the town.

Can you do an early-morning departure from Lagos?

Yes, and the price does not rise for the hour. Allow properly for the distance on the way back: this is the longest transfer on our Faro list, so a first-wave departure means a collection well before dawn, agreed at booking rather than run up on a night meter.

What if the flight is delayed, and can I cancel?

We track the inbound and reset the collection to the real landing time at no extra charge, with free waiting from touchdown. Cancellations more than 24 hours before pick-up are free; inside 24 hours the booking is charged in full. Prices are per vehicle, fixed when booked and paid online by card.
