When not to book us: Avoriaz is the Geneva corridor where the cheapest option and the sensible option are easiest to separate, because the last part of the journey is not really a road problem. The resort is entirely pedestrian at 1 800 metres, and you either drive up to the car parks or ride the Prodains Express from the valley floor, which takes 4 minutes. There is a real scheduled alternative and we would rather name it than leave it out: the tourist office lists Altibus and SAT Léman running services from Geneva airport itself, the SAT Léman shuttle setting down either at the foot of the Prodains Express or at the resort reception at 1,800 metres. Per seat, booked ahead and travelling to their timetable, that is cheaper than a car, and the free line A between the Prodains base station and Morzine centre makes moving about afterwards free too. Where the booked car earns its money is everything either side of that four minute ride. In winter your luggage in Avoriaz travels by horse-drawn sleigh rather than by car, which is charming with one bag and exhausting with five, so being set down at the right point with the right amount of daylight left matters. A metered rank car from the airport would be on the higher cantonal tariff before it moved, at 3,80 francs a kilometre plus 7,80 to pick up and 1,50 for every pair of skis. And a driver who knows whether to come by Cluses or by Thonon, and whether to take you to the car parks or to Prodains, is answering a question the fare comparison does not even ask.

Where you meet your driver

  1. Decide before you book whether you want the Avoriaz car parks or the Prodains base station, and say which. The resort is pedestrian, so the drop point is a real decision rather than a detail.
  2. Come out to the Arrivals level and call your driver as soon as you land. The number is in the supplier details email rather than the booking confirmation, so save it before you fly.
  3. Express pick-up is included in what you paid, with the driver at the airport's designated pick-up point. Meet and greet in the arrivals hall with a name board is a paid extra chosen at checkout.
  4. Pack for the last hundred metres. In winter Avoriaz moves luggage by horse-drawn sleigh and snow vehicle, so a fifth suitcase is a different kind of problem here than it is in a valley resort.
  5. From November to March the vehicle is on winter tyres or carrying chains because the law requires it in the listed mountain communes, and the climb to 1 800 metres is exactly what the rule was written for.

Contact your driver as soon as you land, their number is in your supplier details email.

Arrivals-hall meet and greet with a name board is available as a paid extra at checkout.

Questions people ask about this route

How much is a taxi from Geneva Airport to Avoriaz?

Our price is quoted live above and fixed when you book. A rank car is metered on Tarif II at 3,80 francs a kilometre, the tariff for journeys leaving the canton and for parties of more than three, with a 7,80 franc airport pick-up charge and 1,50 francs for each case or pair of skis on top.

Can a car drive into Avoriaz?

Only as far as the car parks. The resort is a 100 per cent pedestrian village whose streets become ski slopes in winter, and vehicles do not circulate inside it. That is the single most important thing to understand before booking a transfer here.

How do we get from the car park to the apartment?

On foot, or by the resort's own snow transport. In winter Avoriaz moves luggage by horse-drawn sleigh and snow vehicle rather than by car. Ask your accommodation what they arrange, because it varies between buildings and it is easier to sort out before you arrive than after.

Should the driver take us to Prodains instead?

Often, yes. The Prodains Express cable car reaches Avoriaz 1800 in 4 minutes from the valley floor, there is parking at the base station, and the free line A links it to the centre of Morzine. Whether that beats driving all the way up depends on where you are staying, so tell us the address and we will quote the right drop.

How long does the transfer take?

The tourist office gives an approximate 1 hour 25 minutes from Geneva by car, and lists Avoriaz 1800 as 85 km from Geneva Cointrin International Airport. The quote above measures the road our driver actually takes to your address, which is the longer figure of the two. Add time for the winter changeover Saturdays and for the final climb, and note that whichever of the two approaches is quicker on the day is a judgement your driver makes, not a satnav.

Is there public transport to Avoriaz?

Yes, and from the airport itself. The tourist office lists Altibus and SAT Léman running scheduled services from Geneva airport to Avoriaz 1800, with the SAT Léman shuttle setting down either at the foot of the Prodains Express or at the resort reception at 1,800 metres. Within the area the Balad'Aulps Bus serves Avoriaz, Morzine, Les Gets and Montriond at 1,60 euros for a one hour ticket, and several local lines are free, including line A from the Prodains base station to Morzine centre.

Are winter tyres or chains compulsory?

For the vehicle, yes, from 1 November to 31 March in the mountain communes listed by prefectural order: anti-skid devices for at least two drive wheels, or four winter tyres. Signs mark each zone. Our supplier's car arrives equipped, which a hire car collected at the terminal may not be.

How many of us fit in one vehicle?

A saloon takes three passengers and three standard suitcases, an estate four passengers, a people carrier five, and the largest vehicle we quote eight. Ski bags count as luggage. In Avoriaz the number of bags matters twice over, once in the car and once on the walk at the far end, so be honest about the count when you book.

What if our flight is late?

We track the flight and move the pick-up to the real landing time at no extra charge, and the free waiting window included in your fare starts when the aircraft lands. That is worth having when the last stage of the journey depends on daylight and a cable car.

How do we pay, and what if we cancel?

Payment is online by card at the time of booking and covers the whole vehicle rather than the seat count. Cancel more than 24 hours before pick-up and nothing is charged; inside 24 hours the fare is payable in full.
